Seen a good number of bucks through the season up here in Three Rivers. Last day of bow before rifle starts tomorrow. At 7:02 had a big doe cruise through followed by a mature buck with great mass. He wasn't stopping. Just before 9am had another doe come through. Two minutes later I see a buck hot on her trail, nose down. He came within 40 yds and I bleated loudly. He stopped and I let the arrow fly. Ran 50 yds then took a dirt nap within sight of my position. Grateful to have gotten him this morning. Still going out for opening rifle in the morning (MI combo license allows 2 deer to be harvested, bucks or does). IMG_20221114_094600110.jpg

Saturday morning found me laid out prone on a rise in the middle of a corn field I haven't hunted much watching a nice healthy doe when this little guy tried to run me over. Not the wall hanger I was hoping for, but he sure is gonna be tasty! First deer I've taken with the ol' Swiss Miss too. Hopefully my reduction zone buck tag will garner a place above the mantle.

Shot a doe tonight. I have seen zero rut activity. Friday saw 13 doe, no buck in sight. Did see 3 dinks that day just wondering around.

Been three years since I've killed with boom stick and 17 yrs since I've not killed one with bow.

I was fortunate enough to get this 8 point at 4:30 this evening with my .350 Legend. Buck went maybe 20 yards from the shot. The hole you see in the side is the exit. Bullet hit the near shoulder, got the top of the heart and bottom of the lungs. This was my first deer since 2019. Now if I can get a doe with my 10mm I'll be pleased as punch. 20221114_162930.jpg

Lots of good looking deer this year. Mine are hanging in the garage and guns are cleaned and put away, so I get to enjoy the rest of the season through this thread. Keep up the good shots!

I killed a small buck Sunday afternoon at 4:15 and killed a very good doe Monday afternoon at 4:10. I’m really liking my Marlin 336 I had converted to .38/55. Butchering commences today. I’m most like done for this season unless I decide to try for one with a handgun.

Finally getting around to sharing. Marlin 30-30 got the job done Sunday. 25yds, due east of my position. Right in the middle of the main trail. Heart/lung shot, he took off and ran headfirst into a blow down about 10 yards from where I shot him. Broke a splinter out of his main beam. Lots of "stickers" I couldn't count. And a frogs foot for a brow tine.

Not the most glorious 10, but a body like a mule. Sammiches!

Does anyone have any guidance on what to do with a wounded deer? Just this evening I saw an 8pt that has what appears to be a 'glancing' shot or wound on his upper left, toward the rear- side. He is walking fine, but it looks pretty nasty.

I don't want to waste my tag to dispatch him, but don't want him to suffer either.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

I got the clamp on mount from Swiss Products. The thing is absolutely rock solid and doesn't require having to drill the rifle at all. The scope is a Weaver fixed 4 power. It is amazing how easy it is to park rounds where ever you want.
That's where I got the one for my K31. You're absolutely right about it being rock solid.

Deer can recover from alot. IMHO, if he's healthy and can reach to lick it clean, he will probably be fine. If he's walking ok, then the bone structure is good.
Makes sense... He is reaching around and licking it.

Apologies about the crappy image quality... it was taken thru a spotting scope with my cell phone at 250+ yds in the crappy weather.
