I have written to my State Rep. Jeff Ellington and State Senator Shelli Yoder about what they are doing to secure our 2nd Amendment rights here in Indiana. So far I have heard nothing from either elected official.

I haven't received a reply from Walorski or Todd Young. 4 times I've sent emails and paper letters since before Nov-present.

Mike Braun says he is on board and pushing for term limits for Senate members.

HB 1369 passed out of the Ways and Means committee today! Off to the House Floor!! It's 4 pages longer than it was so I gotta see what changed... I know there were some corrections needed and the funding aspects are important to get right.

I think this thread is focused on Indiana legislation. The two Senators and the Representative you mentioned are in Congress.

I know, I haven't received a response from Mike Bohacek or Jim Pressel.
I was just stating that it's been 4 months and Mike Braun is the only one to reply to any of my mail. I I haven't been messaging State Legislators that long, so I don't want to say they haven't sent a response, until I give them enough time to do so.

I thought I heard something on the news earlier this morning or late last night about some state legislator here in IN introducing a bill to stop police from firing "warning" shots. Is that still a "thing"?

I thought police department/agencies had stopped doing that years ago. For obvious reasons...

I could not possibly think that it is a thing. Unless you're Biden, it may get you into some trouble.

Apparently Sen. Baldwin said some agencies are considering requiring warning shots before deadly force by a firearm can can be used and he wants to prevent that (duh). Where he heard that, who knows, but sounds like he's trying to get ahead of the issue if it's a real thing.

HB 1369 is up for second reading today on the house floor. It has 8 amendments to be voted on as well. None looked like poison pills, most dealt with either DNR property, or effective dates.

    FINGERS CROSSED!!!!

HB 1369 made it through the 2nd reading today and is up for third reading and vote on the House Floor on Monday.

Draft below is changed to reflect Utah and Montana (as of today) passing ConC. That's 18 States with ConC, Indiana was the 19th State admitted to the Union. I don't think this is a coincidence.

    ONCE MORE UNTO THE BREACH!!

    Senator/Representative,

I am writing to urge your support of HB 1369, Firearms Matters. This bill was authored by Representative Ben Smaltz and co-authored by Representatives Lehman, Wesco, and Lucas at a time when the essential right of self-defense has never been more important.

There will soon be 18 States with permit-less/no license carry of handguns. Those who oppose such legislation predicted dire consequences, as they do for any bill remotely considered Pro-2nd Amendment and Pro-Article 1, Section 32 of the Indiana Constitution. Observation shows this is not the case, as does data from FBI Uniform Crime Reporting.

Over the past decade Indiana has passed a number of Pro-2nd Amendment and Pro-Article 1, Section 32 bills into law. These include: the law forbidding the prohibition of firearms stored in vehicles in employer’s parking lots (2010), the firearms law preemption statute (2011), and the strengthening of the language and due process protections under the “Laird Law” (2019). The dire consequences predicted by those who oppose any law that supports the Right to Keep and Bear Arms simply did not happen.

In 2019, no one saw the year 2020 coming. According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation: our country gained 8.4 million new gun-owners in 2020. Early on citizens saw shortages of basic supplies and other things never before seen in this country due to the COVID pandemic. Police Departments were being depleted due to COVID exposure and subsequent quarantines. Later riots broke out across the country amidst calls to “defund and reimagine” the Police. People who would’ve depended on calling 911 in 2019 came to a horrific revelation in 2020: “You are on your own, no one is coming.”

If we learned anything from the year 2020, eventually you will have to leave your home. The essential right of self-defense does not stop at the property line. I’m sure I can count on your support with this vital legislation.

    Thank you,

Also, Senate Bill 199, self defense, makes it not a felony to point a firearm in a self-defense situation that does not rise to use of deadly force, passed the Senate and is on its way to the House.

This fixes Nantz v State where to appeals court judges decided that pointing a firearm was deadly force.

This has to be fake news. A warning shot, by definition, is deployment of deadly force. Worse, a "warning shot" violates Rule 4 and risks deployment of said deadly force against an innocent bystander.

There is absolutely zero chance that any LEO agency is giving any serious consideration to such a policy.

You may be assigning too much intelligence to the people in charge. After all, we now have a President who recommended warning shots with a shotgun!
