Interesting article. Yes, it is New Yorker magazine, but the article is an interview with a historian who works at the Hoover Institution. There is a pay-wall if you have read too many free articles, but I was able to read it.

I don't think he really comes to a genuine answer to the question, but it is at least a discussion of the questions that need to be asked.

He does fail on a few fronts. He glosses over the maiden(nuland USAID) revolution as a popular uprising to over throw an elected president as some Ukrainian's wanting to join the EU.

He sees Putin as a Stalin figure, when he is the most popular president Russia has ever had(and that is by western polls). Is he any more brutal as a war time president than Bush was? Probably, yes but he and Russian's in general see this as a fight for their existance. Something few in the west seem to understand. There is a long history of EU countries and Russia going back hundreds of years, also not talked about(Kiev being the former capitol of Russia for one).

Fails to talk at all about the west and many of our leader talking about wanting to destroy the Russian currency, military, and open calls to break up the country. That may not play over and over on western media, but it certainly does in other parts of the world(like India were around 80% are currently in support of Russia).

Fails to mention the Minsk accords, which western leaders including German and French have both stated was a ruse,a lie to buy Ukraine time(with the idea they could militarily take the seperatist regions, without Russia interfering. Which is were things were headed when Russia stepped in.).

He is certainly for them joining the EU and NATO,but does not mention much of the EU and certainly NATO does not want that. There is a reason they were not already in either, and the main one is corruption.

At least he did not mention democracy, because Ukraine has not been one since Maiden with most political parties being outlawed and half of "house/senate" members either dead or disapeared shortly after maiden.

Western memories seem to be short, that is not the case everywhere.

I think smoking man knows way too much about the markets to be a socialist. He just comes up with some really odd sources sometimes.
I do not think to many could read it in German. She did say it though.
100% Support the constitution. Fractional reserve lending not so much, though I have benefited from it.

Our government at work,at the UN.

"President Biden has made LGBTQI+ human rights a foreign policy priority. Shortly after taking office, he issued a presidential memorandum which directed all U.S. foreign affairs agencies to ensure that our diplomacy and foreign assistance programming promote and protect the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons globally. And of course, that includes our various Missions to the United Nations.

Q: I’m curious to know about how the war in Ukraine will affect this meeting or decisions will arise about this given Russia’s kind of hardening stance when it comes to LGBTQ rights, and kind of this movement in Ukraine when it comes to LGBT rights kind of progressing

A: I think it’s impossible to have a conversation about the vulnerabilities of LGBTQI people without looking at what’s been happening in Ukraine."

I was envisioning a Reaper (or two) patrolling international waters with a Reaper (or two) flying CAP in case Ivan the hot shot Russkie pilot shows up in his ****** old-fashioned Su-27 and decides to **** around with an unarmed drone. Just sayin'.
I wonder what kind of air to ship missiles we have now? Are they still the same as 30 years ago?

Many of the same names, but updated.
Just like the MK 48 torpedoes we use now are not even near the same as the MK 48 torps from my day.
Same with air to air missiles. Keep the name, basic shape and some of the theory of operation, but update everything.
