This is really intriguing. I never knew it was quite so. This seems really fun with the set-ups. I will be paying more attention in the future. May try one some day. Keep it coming!

These rigs are to drool for!

Any way a regular guy can compete in this sport with economy gear and moderately priced ammo?
Absolutely. At least at HHRP we have a pretty wide spread of scores. One of our regulars makes a pretty good show for himself with a bone stock 10/22 and nothing special scope and decent ammo.

Placed 3rd out of 20 at this past Saturday's match. I tied for 1st place on the 2 prone stages, but fell towards the middle of the pack on the 3 positional stages. My plan is to practice on the positional setups at home and during my weekly range trips, as there is obvious room for improvement.

I removed the dope card holder as I found myself not using it during the last match, though I did have it in place. I found that just reviewing my notes before each stage was enough for me. I had also lowered the trigger pull weight back down to 1.2 lbs, as I previously had it.

Got a deal on a KRG Bravo for the 457, so now I will be moving out of base class and into open.

Also added a DIP mag well, DIP mag well block, DIP trigger shoe and an Anarchy Outdoors extended mag release. The trigger shoe was a very nice upgrade, went from a skinny trigger to a nice wide one.

Played around with adding weight to the front of the 457 to get a more balanced rifle when shooting offhand or using a front bag during a positional shot. Due to the fact that my gun funds are depleted, I decided to make my own weight out of some flat steel that I had laying around (3/16" thick by 1 1/4" wide) instead of spending probably $150 for specifically made pieces or an entire ARCA rail or something like that.

I ended up with about 17 ounces mounted in the channel of the aluminum chassis and another 8 ounces between the 2 side plates mounted in the M-Lok slots of the polymer forend for a total of roughly 25 ounces added.

The plates in the channel weren't made to look fancy, so my cutouts for the forend screws are rougher than what I would normally do, but they aren't seen once the forend is installed and they're just weight so I didn't really care so long as they fit well. I used a factory threaded hole in the chassis at the front and drilled one hole and used some KRG hardware for the rear screw. I spent way more time on these than I should have. That was mainly because the larger portion of the channel measure 1.12" and the narrower section measured 1.00" wide. Again, I was working with steel that was 1.25" wide and had to make 2 sections 10.5" in length. I should have just went to Menards and bought some 1" wide steel, but I was showing my skinflint side....

After that I made 2 sections that measured 1.25" x 3.5" for the sides, beveled the edges, drilled some holes, hit them with 4 coats of BBQ flat black paint and mounted with more KRG hardware. I spent more time being precise with these side plates, because I wanted them to look nice and not like some cheapass dude made them in his garage trying to save a buck.

And it balances nicely now. I could probably use a few more ounces, but I think I'm honestly done with it. The rifle feels sooooo much better now.

Yes, taking this picture made me nervous. I watched the rifle for like 5 minutes before I snapped the pics.....

Took first place at the August match in Antwerp. Swapped the Bushnell Match Pro out for an Arken SH4 GenII 6-24x50 since then. I like the wider field of view and reticle design in the Arken.

This month's match was rescheduled from the 18th to the 25th.

And this looks like an interesting stage. I guess I'll get to try out my homemade pump pillow for the first time.
