There be shootin’ and stabbin’ on the new year in San Antonio, including this incident at a Knights Inn. Neither door-kicker (who ended up dead) nor room occupant ( who left scene before arrival of cops)have been identified yet, at least not publicly.

A witness told officers that a 43-year-old man was inside his room when a 38-year-old man started kicking in the door to get in. When the door was breached, the man inside the room fired a handgun at the other man, hitting him multiple times, reports showed.

On Sat police respond to reports of man pointing gun from sun roof of his vehicle. Deputies assisting spottedthe subject’s car and got into a high speed chase over several highways. The car finally stopped on the property of the Starrville Methodist Church and the subject escaped into the woods. Police searched the area but didn’t come up with the subject and started expanding their search area. They did find a shotgun in the car.

The next morning the pastor of the church found the subject hiding in the stall of a restroom in the church building. The pastor was armed, pulled his gun and told the subject to leave but the subject attacked him, ultimately getting the gun and killing the pastor and wounding another member of the church. He also fired on the pastor’s wife, missing her but she injured her shoulder in a fall while fleeing.

The subject stole the pastors car and ultimately ended up in another chase with police who finally captured him. He was found to have a gunshot wound to his hand.

Three bounty hunters force their way into a house with guns drawn, resident grabs his gun, and fight’s on. Resident’s wfe and kids flee the house during the shooting and neighbors record the noise.

According to the resident One of the bountyhunters then claim to be law enforcement and the resident put down his gun and gave up. He says the bountyhunters cuffed and beat him, and then dragged him outside where by this point sheriffs deputies were on scene.

The deputies arrested the bounty hunters, and they will be charged (so far) with burglary and felony forcible entry.

The guy the bountyhunters we looking for rented the house previously, but the current innocent resident had been there for two years.

TIL (apparently) that bounty hunting with deadly force is legal? (But, thankfully, not, if the bounty hunters target the wrong mark.)

Well... bounty hunting is legal. Licensed carrying of handguns is legal in Texas. Pulling guns and claiming to be law enforcement and forcing entry into home of innocent person and confining and beating that innocent person? Eh, maybe not so much.

Seattle Washington Des Moines, Iowa Washington (but reported in The Seattle Times)(Oh. There's a Des Moines in Washington state too. Whoodathunk.)

Man picking up his stolen car fatally shot an alleged street robber in Des Moines, police say | The Seattle Times

Pickup Truck belonging to man licensed-to-carry was stolen. Police found it abandoned two days later and notify Mr. LTC. Mr. LTC asks them not to impound vehicle, he will pick it up himself. He goes by motorcycle to his pickup and awaits a tow truck. Two guys driving in an SUV by stop, one gets out and makes conversation about the bike, but then pulls a gun and demands Mr. LTC's backpack. As Mr. LTC hands over the backpack, the robber puts his gun in his pocket. Mr. LTC draws, robber draws and fires a missed shot, Mr. LTC shoots robber multiple times. Robber treated at scene but died at hospital.

Police interviewed Mr. LTC and SUV driver and passed reports to DA, no charges yet, police say it appears no connection between robber(s) and theft of the truck, just Mr. LTC having a bad week that could have ended a lot worse.

Vietnam vet kills intruder who broke into Missouri home: report

A Vietnam veteran killed a would-be burglar who broke into his Missouri home and attacked him in the predawn hours of Thursday, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office said, according to a report.

Deputies responding to a 911 call found the intruder dead inside the home south of Willard, which is near Springfield, around 4 a.m. Thursday, KY3-TV in Springfield reported.

"The suspect attacked the homeowner and the homeowner was able to defend himself and as a result the suspect is deceased," public information officer Deputy Jason Winston told the station. "We’re just glad the homeowner was able to confront the suspect and defend himself and his family against this attack."

    Back on 30 Dec...

On Sunday while woman enters a home, three guys use opportunity to force their way in and hold woman and children at gun point. Male homeowner in another room heard what was going on, got a rifle, and shot one of the three DRT. Other two fled. Cops say the dead assailant was known to family. On Monday while house was empty someone fired shots at it, and later a fire broke out. Quotes from neighbors seem to imply might be gang related. Cops say homeowner acted in defense of his children.
