Irsay doesn’t own the stadium. It’s owned by Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority. I would think the rights were purchased by Lucas Oil from that authority. So the Colts don’t really have much say about it.
Then I'm still not seeing a problem. If Irsay doesn't own it, then any money earned by the facility isn't going to him or the team.

Oh, now that’s a different question altogether. The Team and the NFL get the ticket money. There is likely a leasing agreement. And maybe the Colts get a cut, the NFL get their cut, and maybe the authority gets a cut. Probably Colts get most.

Oh. And the problem is. If you want a football stadium for your team to play in. You pay for it.

Don’t know the details but the team usually gets cuts of parking, concessions, etc…

Stadiums are seldom, if ever, built without massive subsidies. The data I've read shows they don't have a broad economic impact and are not a good use of public funds. If a team wants to self finance new construction I'm all for it. In this case the Bears bought the land but stated they can't move forward without government assistance.

Politicians can't resist the prestige of a pro team and havening something to thump their chest over at election time even if they know it's a loosing proposition.

    Yep.
    See also Indianapolis.

It is in a state with two teams already and that to compete spent millions on the River walk. I cannot agree, particularly for states and cities in flyover country. An NFL team is part of a big indicator to business that the area is worthy of their consideration as a location for their corporate headquarters.
Why would the other two teams be relevant, other than the Cowboys having too much say in things? It is around 280 miles from SA to Dallas, and 200 from SA to Houston. That is in the same range as Green Bay, Chicago, Detroit, Indy, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, etc. NY has two teams in the same stadium, and LA has two in one city.

You really have odd ideas of what corporations look for when they locate their business. I'd like to see where any business used the existence of a NFL team in a city as a criteria for moving their business there.

Does the NFL rate better than MLB or NBA? Is it even better if they have multiple sports teams?

    • Hard Rock Stadium. Miami Gardens (Dolphins) - owned by Dolphins owner Stephen Ross
    • Gillette Stadium, Foxborough (Patriots) - owned by Kraft Group (Pats owner Bob Kraft is CEO)
    • SoFi Stadium, Hollywood Park, Ca (Rams & Chargers) - owned by Kroenke Sports Enterprises group (parent company for Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s sports teams)
    • Fedex Field, Maryland (Redskins) - owned by team owner and CEO Daniel Snyder
    • Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte (Panthers) - owned by team
    • Met Life Stadium, New Jersey (Giants & Jets) - owned jointly by both teams through a holding company.
I believe Joe Robbie built Hard Rock (Joe Robbie) stadium. The name was changed after Ross bought the team.

The team is upset with the amount of control exerted by Chicago.

Well, that's what happens when you partner up with government.

The city should not allow them to use the name Chicago in their description of the team And put the sports broadcasters and the nfl on notice that any use of Chicago in their broadcasts will result in a lawsuit.
Yes and the city should also not allow hot dogs or pizza to be called Chicago Style if they are outside of Chicago city limits. How do you propose that all of that gets enforced?

Its been said for decades that the Bears had the worst least terms in the NFL. Smaller cuts of concessions, parking, etc than any other team. They also had no control of the field itself. The renovated stadium never had a proper drain or heating system and the field was often a mess. The park district also would hold events which would destroy the field and then the bears would have to play on it. Their practice facility was at least a half hour drive from the stadium and they did not have access to the field except on game day.

The team was run for decades by the idiot Ted Phillips with the blessing of Virginia McCaskey and never had the proper resolve to leave Soldier Field but the Arlington Park thing was so easy and such a no brainer that they have not yet found a way to screw it up.

This new facility is supposed to have hotels, retail, convention entertainment and meeting space as well as residential. The Bears ticket holders have also moved out of the city and Arlington Heights is probably a more convenient drive for most of them.

I wonder how they're going to deal with traffic?
What kind of crowds did the race track have?
