Are we complaining about a team buying property and building their own stadium? I say good. Let them build and pay for their stadium.

Chicago uses Soldier Field for more than just the Bears. If the improvements haven't been paid for by the end of the Bears lease, that is on the city. Not that the citizens there will ever hold the government accountable.

completed its purchase of the 326-acre site for $197.2 million as it continues negotiations for state and local tax subsidies.

Agree that Chicago probably couldn't force the Bears to change their city name considering that the New York Giants are actually in New Jersey!
No different than The Washington Redskins
new stadium that is in Maryland.

The stadiums built with taxpayer money are poor investments. The local citizens only have so much fun/entertainment money to spend. If they are attracted to a new statium that means there entertainment money will not be spent going to other venues that were built without the taxpayers money.

Can we agree that there are things that cannot be quantified in a research paper?

Indiana is one of the most solvent states in the country. Since the Colts arrival the growth in central Indiana has been nationally recognized for decades, not saying the Colts are responsible for that growth but Indy is in a pack if 35 cities with population of 500k to 1 million and after the larger cities get theirs there just are not enough teams to go around.

Perception is one of those unmeasurables. That we hosted a SB, something folks still talk about, adds to our persona as an area. In the city competition for business relocation and retention an NFL team is huge.
Nah. You want a stadium, you pay for it.

I'd say it is overrated having to have an NFL team.

San Antonio has almost 1.5m people and does fine without one.
It is in a state with two teams already and that to compete spent millions on the River walk. I cannot agree, particularly for states and cities in flyover country. An NFL team is part of a big indicator to business that the area is worthy of their consideration as a location for their corporate headquarters.

The city should not allow them to use the name Chicago in their description of the team And put the sports broadcasters and the nfl on notice that any use of Chicago in their broadcasts will result in a lawsuit.
And the Dallas Cowboys are not in Dallas. It is in Arlington and the announcers do say that is the location of the game when the cowboys play…

I just had to lol at that given some of the papers I have read. There are few topics that do not have someone somewhere who turned it into a peer reviewed study.

An electric fan can reduce body temperature when it is hot and humid and they blow on you! Who knew?

The stadium hosts way more than just 8-10 Colts games, conventions, collegiate sports and concerts. It is part of the overall convention set up that brings in millions to the city and private businesses. If it did not exist downtown Indy would be a ghost town…

Gillette. SoFi. MetLife. Paid for with private funds.

But everyone doing it doesn’t justify doing it.
Does a sponsor name on the stadium automatically guarantee that it was paid for by the sponsor? Pretty sure that Lucas Oil didn't pay for Lucas Oil stadium.

Sponsor is just that, paying for the naming rights, as Lucas is doing. Don’t know of any that the sponsor actually owns the stadium…

Lucas Oil paid 122 million dollars to obtain naming rights for 20 years. They could name it anything they wanted, and still can if they choose a new name.

That was kind of my point. But that sponsorship money does offset some of the public funding needed would it not? Or does that money go into the owners' pockets with none going to the public funds?

Irsay doesn’t own the stadium. It’s owned by Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority. I would think the rights were purchased by Lucas Oil from that authority. So the Colts don’t really have much say about it.
