Leave it to them to hit the consumer below the belt in today’s economy.
What ever happened to taxation without representation?
We are the 14th lowest tax state in the country. Yes, our gas tax is high but it is payed by everyone, drug dealers, illegals, cash workers, everyone pays. Way better than a high income tax only those of us that work pay…

And not running a hideous deficit. Nobody likes taxes and everybody likes to complain, but Indiana is a pretty decent place to live.

So let's see if I got this right. Gas tax is going up starting July 1 supposedly for road work. Gov. Holcomb has proposed sending out another $225 per taxpayer from the Budget Surplus which he has said would use an estimated $1B from the surplus, leaving an estimated $5B in Surplus.
Call me stupid if you want, but how about utilizing some of the Surplus funds that by definition is tax dollars taken in, in excess of the regular budget spending to fix some roads?

Or how about giving tax payers back a larger portion of the Surplus funds already taken from us, and then use those additional gas tax funds to actually fund road repairs?
    We've already been over taxed

I've heard time and time again the extra tax was for our roads. Wonder why we pay registration every year and a sales tax on the gas. Why did we need the excise tax?
Yet I am tolled to pay for bridges that were planned decades ago and we, our parents, and our grandparents payed taxes for decades to build.

As per WLFI tv, state gas tax will go from June hi of .56 to .61 July first.

That’s just the state tax, add fed tax, state sales tax for total.

edit to add: not arguing just repeating what it says on WLFI news web site.

OK I know all of this but where is the money. Is it set asidor into the general fund black hole to be Mia-appropriated or just stolen.
Because these butt wipes (dirty butt wipes) sure aren’t spending it on our roads. It’s disgusting.

Indy roads or state roads? The state roads seem to be in pretty good condition as I travel about. The suburbs roads are in pretty good shape too. Is it the dem controlled city that sucks? They are by far the worst I see in my travels.

Never listen to the media when direct sources are available. Tax rates are published, as are the IC codes that establish them.

There was no new tax passed. The sales tax adjusts monthly based on average prices, always 7%. Average prices are up, sales tax is up just like every other good that you pay sales tax on.

This has been the law since 2014.
You couldnt let the outrage continue for an entire page before ruining it with facts? Do you even INGO? :)

    Understood.
I usually don’t let one slip by me, but the thought of a small city, local news outfit lying to me never crossed my mind. Not used to dealing with liars. Lesson learned.

**** when it gets this close to home that chaps my jeans.
    I’m getting old.

Sometimes they lie, sometimes they misunderstand, sometimes they speak with half the story learned. Right now gas prices are a hot topic, so anything that gets you to click is money for them. Outrage sells.

Show me where they are doing anything to our City streets. Anywhere.
Not sure, but doesn't that fall on the local jurisdictions? State tax is (I believe) just for State roads. Whatever city you live in... well, that up to your mayor/town council. You're just lucky enough to live in that rat infested crap hole of Indy...

I think the issue is we could be much much better. Its starting to feel like we keep raising our taxes. but as long as we don't do as bad as our neighbor to the west we think we got it great.
