Where else do you go to get service with no idea what the cost will be? How have they pulled this off so long?
    In one word? Insurance.
    W allow it.
CKW (spouse) has been in and out of hospital soooooo many times that we are ready to do "Billing" battle every time. They are legal thieves and you have to watch every bill. I had the same issues when I had Cancer. We got billed for tests I never received by Drs I did not know.
Most people don't care because "Insurance will cover it", and by jacking up the bill they are able to get insurance companies to pay closer to the going rate. I saw what my insurance paid for an eye exam and glasses, it was less than half of what a non insured person would pay, unless they negotiated first.
    Including opiates...
Not so much anymore, they have gotten much more restrictive since they have started to get criminally charged. Go back a few years and you would be correct. A Dr. on here explained why, it's based on payout from the fed govt for medicaid/care. The amount they receive is partially based on patient satisfaction surveys. So a patient asks for something and doesn't receive it...

I get what you're saying, but true mental health care providers would likely disagree with you. If you're truly interested, check out the DSM 5. It's a guide for diagnosing mental health disorders for mental health practicioners, and it's not as subjective (from the diagnostician side) as many think. Depression, for example, isn't intended to be diagnosed if you can point to a direct cause that would make you reasonably upset.

What I'm getting at is that mental health should be tended to by the experts, and that's not a GP. And no, the government need not be involved...but good luck with that.
What part would they disagree with me about? I agree 100% people should be tended to by the experts but they arent. Psychiatrists are expensive and hard to get into and gp's are fine doing it.

Glad you're still with us. I wish Dr's would look at the whole picture and like in your scenario say, "hey this guys dealing with cancer, is worried about passing, he doesnt have depression. He's rightfully upset over the current circumstances".

I worry that in the future they wont need to ban firearms. Because the Dr's give out these diagnosis like candy. If we shift blame so quickly to the broad subject of mental illness eventually most regular people wont even be able to buy firearms because at some point in life they got help or were wrongly diagnosed.

I think the same reason can be said for why marijuana hasnt been federally legalized despite liberals claiming they're all for it. How many states have legalized it? Yet I believe and I may be wrong, you cant purchase firearms if you smoke it. I think I remember something about Hawaii even going to homes where people had gotten medical mj cards and told them to turn in their firearms or something along those lines.

I guess these are conspiracy thoughts. But part of me believes the government doesnt need to ban firearms. They just need a reason why you shouldnt be able to buy one. With the strong push for government healthcare that has always been my concern. "Ya we'll pay for everything just tell us whats wrong with you". I think laws currently prohibit them looking but how long will that last and can you even trust that they aren't already doing it?
They ran a background check on me for the gun I bought this weekend. It asked about marijuana use.

Of course I checked no but in reality it's none of their damn business if I do. Weed is a God made medicine.

I would trust someone smoking weed much more so than I would trust someone ingesting narcotics like codeine or drinkers for that matter.

Most weeders I've observed just get chatty, snacky and they love everybody.

Now that I think about it, maybe everyone should smoke it. LOL . Especially the nitpickers of the bunch..

I played this game a couple years ago with Reid health regarding a wellness procedure that had part of the bill incorrectly coded. It should have been covered 100% but they charged me $75 because of their error.

I verified with my insurance carrier what they had done wrong. I called the billing department monthly for 3 months to correct it every time I received the new bill.

By the third month I lost my patience. I asked the woman what I needed to do to get it corrected. Then I asked her if I just needed to call the attorney general.

She was immediately able to correct my bill after I threatened to contact the AG.

I worked in collections both corporate and consumer for many years. Trick of the trade is no one wants you to call the AG. It's bad business and a lot of extra paperwork if they do.

I believe that Obummercare changed that price difference, now when I want to be the negotiator they say they can't charge different prices...

To be fair, opiates are just as organic as weed is. At least initially.

I think the standards for drugs in this country are ridiculous. If you want to grow something in your yard and eat it or smoke it, that's no one else's business. The only drug restrictions I agree with are preventing commercialization of drugs.

It is a big old world out there peoples and we are not private inside a box. Look at the number of visitors we have on line at any given time.
    True.
And if you look at "current visitors" >Robots, there's even many pages full of Robots harvesting what we're posting.
I was surprised there's this many.

Screw it, make it ALL legal. The biggest usurpation of our rights is in the name of the war on drugs. Just stop it!

All the money in the world cannot stop an industry that produces 1700% profits. NOPE

All the money in the world will never stop an addict from the addiction. NOPE

Disclaimer: I do realize some addicts can, with help, get along, but most fail, so sad it is so.

I agree, all legal. But don't let corporations mass produce and market the **** for over the counter sell unless you want 21st century slavery.

I get where you are coming from, and it is a good place, but the truth is it will either be delivered by the cartels or corporations, pick one. The ugly truth is between 10% and 20% will fall prey to the evil, but sadly that evil is far better than many of the evils we are looking down the barrels at...

Don't forget about cocaine, a butt load of hallucinogens (LSD, Peyote, Ayahuasca, Psilocybin, and many more), a variety of amphetamines, depressants, etc.
I think the standards for drugs in this country are ridiculous. If you want to grow something in your yard and eat it or smoke it, that's no one else's business. The only drug restrictions I agree with are preventing commercialization of drugs.
Why prevent the commercialization of drugs? I don't necessarily want to be running a still in my backyard (well maybe I would like to try), pretty sure I don't want every meth head around running their own "kitchen", not to mention things like growing a willow tree to harvest it's bark to make aspirin.

Not to mention that the corporations could make standardized strengths and/or label the strength moonshine vs commercial whiskey as an example. And for some things make a cleaner version again moonshine vs commercial whiskey you don't know if the shiner messed up and there is methanol in the shine whereas the commercial distillers have a bit more quality control and test for it.
I believe that Obummercare changed that price difference, now when I want to be the negotiator they say they can't charge different prices...
I believe that is at least partially incorrect, they can't charge lower prices than what the govt pays them. Most insurance companies already had that in their contracts that they couldn't charge the public less than the insurance companies paid.

Because I can very realistically see a situation like monsanto evolving. Selling drugs, selling drug recovery. The issue I have with it being corporatized is that unlike weed, some of this **** will kill you if you stop taking it. Once there's enough addicts in the country who need that fix, one company will put everyone else out of business and have total control of whether a large swath of the public lives or dies.

Also there wouldn't be as much reason for cartels to be as violent if it's legal.
Just look at how weed dealing has evolved in states that legalized it. You don't see it being sold as weed cigarettes by mega corporations, but you also don't see cut throat violent dealers like you used to.

I completely agree. This may be the libertarian in me coming out but I dont think the government has any right to say what you can or cant put in your body (unless you're pregnant or something). I think of course you are responsible for what you do while inebriated.

I remember the first time I went to a Knob Creek Machine gun Shoot. The gentleman who invited me gave me the best advice I have heard concerning the "Gun Culture". He introduced me to Kenny, who many of you know, who confirmed that advice. While they were speaking about the swap meet or Ryder trucks selling ammo and "other" things, this advice is good for all instances. This was around 1998 and I think it is just as true today. "Assume every word you say, every word you write down, every action you take in public is being recorded for ever." I do not post often but when I do, I know that whatever I post may end up anywhere. If what you want to say, you don't want your worst enemy to see, don't say it, don't post it. Bite your lips and trust in the moderators. They could not do this thankless job without believing in the first and the second for all citizens.

You do know a legal over the counter drug that is sold can cause death by withdrawal don't you? That being alcohol. Has Jack Daniels taken total control? And the medical community both sells(prescribes) drugs and drug recovery.

Your worried about corporations like monsanto getting control, but are just fine with cartels doing the same? And one of the main reasons you don't see the mega corps getting involved is simple. It's still against fed law so most banks and such won't touch the money made if they know it is made by growing/selling. That is why dispensaries where it's legal are cash and carry, no credit cards/checks.
