Are they saying the battery weighs that much? :dunno:
“… it draws juice from a lithium-ion battery (whose capacity has yet to be revealed, but it's safe to say it's going to be massive), allowing it to operate for up to eight hours on one charge. According to Caterpillar, the truck can be fully charged in two hours…”

Sounds almost too good to be true.

I think the law of diminishing returns must bite hard.

Is the relationship between battery size and net carbon linear? Plus, it looks to me lime the more reliant we are on lithium, the more reliant we have to be on China. They are only the #3 producer of lithium in the world. Tesla, for example makes its own batteries, but they get all their lithium from China.

Different reporting from other sources. There is good news for Jeep Cherokee fans!
    • The company said the replacement of the Jeep Cherokee SUV, along with other vehicles on a new electrified platform, will be produced in Toluca, Mexico

Have to wonder if electric vehicles are more/less labor intensive or about the same to assemble.

I can't imagine that they are even close to being as labor intensive to assemble as a gas powered vehicle. It's essentially a battery, motors and the associated wiring and electronic controls for the powertrain. Much less complicated than gas engines, geared transmissions, fuel delivery and management systems, and all of the other associated components necessary.

I’ve heard a couple reports of some of the utility requirements of the new (GM) battery plant — it’s a pretty involved process. It’s probably more labor intensive than we’d think. Plus, the Bedford aluminum foundry plant is making diecasting parts for some of the EVs. There’s still gear box/transmissions/or whatever they’re calling them in the GM EVs.

Glad we have so much money to lend out. I'm sure it'll work out well just like the GM and Dodge bailout did

Just made the mistake of watching an NBC news article about the greatness of electric cars. When they compared the price of ownership, they showed that the EV was more expensive initially, but they then figured in the cost of gasoline to show that they were more expensive. By that story, electricity is free? What planet are they living on?

Oh, and they showed their new EV owner pluging into a charging station but never showed them inserting a credit card to pay for their "free" energy.

I know people that think the same thing. It's not free and never will be.

Electric car charging prices in Oslo could almost triple from Thursday

It is now more than twice as expensive to charge an electric vehicle in Norway’s capital, Oslo, than to fill up a gas-powered vehicle.
