I'll admit I haven't followed all the details of this bill but just on a gut level, I'm surprised Massie is a 'yes' on this.

It looks like triangulation, parsing how much the electorate cares about cutting spending (a serious attempt at which would likely require technical default) versus how much hell will be raised if their benefit checks are late (which the Dems will make sure hurt the little people who vote Republican the most) and deciding the potential gains just aren't worth it

I wish they would choose 'damn the torpedos' over 'damned if I do, damned if I don't'

The debt ceiling bill is a fig leaf, the old excuse of 'we tried but couldn't get it done' is being dusted off even now
