Who cares? We should also stop saying the pledge in school too.
OK people this cat just got 60 days. Does he even care...?????

All he ever does is come out of the shadows and stir crap. Never adds anything of merit and a few of you have called me out for stating this in open Forum.

Lets do this OK......you guys enjoy the place and I will see that it runs along smoothly.

You are incorrect in regards to my preferred choice of anthem.

Sorry I had to respond that that chao above you.

I certainly mean no disrespect, and don't mean to belittle.

Seems like a strange line to draw in the sand in regards to sports.

But out of respect to you. I'll go read only on this thread.
Its not about the sports man........it is about the people gathered to together taking the moment to honor those who have served. What in the hell is so damned confusing to you and a few others.
Yeah this has my head spinning.

If it seems my BP is up I have lost far to many friends mentors and family in the struggles this country has fought in. Like them or not people perished. I honor their sacrifice when the flag is displayed and a color guard is in full presentation. Be that at a Race a game or a damned picnic I stand and put my hand over my heart and strip my cover if I am wearing one.

To you and any that dont get that....well....WTAF people.

I don't know how old you are, but being a military brat also, my experience is a bit different. Yes, I remember being at baseball practices (on post), Retreat coming on, and us stopping and facing the flag. I also remember riding with my parents, and it coming on, us stopping the car getting out, and standing in attention. But I also remember this......right at the warning before Retreat started, me and pretty much every kid from 6-18, AND GI,s to boot, making a mad dash to get indoors before you got "caught" by Retreat.
Sorry to hear that, proud to say I never witnessed that but then I only lived "on base" for about 6 of my younger years, pre -77.

I think back fondly of that time. We were all proud of our parents, the nation, etc.... but TRUST me, no one wanted to get caught out when retreat was playing. It wasn’t a patriotism thing, everyone was a patriot, it was just one of those common things. But honestly, in a weird way, I kinda miss it.

    That confuses me right there.
Um... is it poor etiquette to rescind that?

I certainly don't like the way this thread headed...

My bone to pick is that it's a really hard song to sing, and it ends with a question. On its technical merits, it a poor national anthem. Even Hail, Columbia was better.

It is tradition, a form of received wisdom. I am surprised that a Christian, of all people, would support questioning of why we do things the way we used to/the way we always have
