One good thing about this is most people who think it over can't help but conclude that it's not about dummycrats and republithugs, not about left versus right, not about US politics.

And this needs to be a part of virtually every political thread we have, people would understand them better.

Maybe the Dems are thinking Trump is still in office in a way , even if Biden was sworn in !? There are still on going fights about the recount of votes. So this may be there thinking ? Food for thought .
Well in theory, to them his IS still office because he's living rent free in their head. That and in every TDS'r also.

The charade begins with 4 hrs. of debate and a vote on whether the Senate even has jurisdiction

There are two simple but key parts spelled out in Article 1 Section 3 of the Constitution that indicates they do not.

The first one being that the Chief Justice shall preside over a Presidential impeachment trial. That is not the case here which suggests that the Chief Justice himself does not even recognize jurisdiction.

The second point is the wording that states "When the President of the United States is tried" What it does not say is 'a President" or "a former President"

But the Democrats will push on regardless.

This is getting good already

dems are taking a huge political gamble on this IMO. Further diversion of the country regardless of outcome and the potential for egg on their face.

TIL: we don’t need the Supreme Court. We can just have the senate vote on the constitutionality of anything. Only takes a couple of hours so why waste time with the courts?

This is an indictment on the educational system of the US, although most of these legislators are old enough that they should have been taught about the 3 branches of government and their functions IN GRADE SCHOOL. Determination of constitutionality is NOT and never has been a function of the legislative branch. Anyone in my grade school civics class would have been able to correctly answer that question. This "trial" is a joke and a sham. They should ALL be removed from office. They clearly are not qualified to hold their positions.

The democrats are just trying to keep busy so they don't have to really answer for the craziness coming from Joe. Once this is done and over and Trumps gone for good they won't have anywhere to hide.

    Trump will NEVER be gone.
Trump will be blamed for everything that is less than perfect for the next four years. EVERY Covid death, EVERY job lost, EVERY drop in the stock market, EVERY overseas troop deployment will be blamed on Trump by the Democrats and the Media.

So essentially we’ve replaced Clinton with Trump?

Trump's biggest failure was trying to be the bigger man and not go after these people after he had power...

Because the favor was not returned.
Trump never tried to be the bigger man. That wasn’t, and isn’t in his character. Your claim is demonstrably false, like really really false.
