Wanted a Woodsman as a kid but never had one. Finally found a nice one last year and bought it. Brings back fond memories.

As as to what I would buy for $1000, not really sure. Have most of the wanted items at that price covered. As stated upthread, the price point of my "taste" seems to have increased.
just out of curiosity what did you have to give for it. I know a guy that has a 6" Match Target model in pristine condition that I think is a 1964 vintage for 1000 even. I might just give him a call today and see if he still has that old burnt out anchor.

No disrespect meant, but of the guns I lust most after, regardless if they be a HG or LG, a $1000 would not even represent a good down payment. I'm talking a fully loaded M1-A1, or a 416 Barret would be on my most expensive list, but $1000 wouldn't even get me a factory tricked out XD or 1911 from Sprinfield or S&W, forget about Wilson or any other 1911 specialty maker. Truth be know $1000 doesn't get anything all that special today in terms of firearms.

IMHO, a better title would have been "If you had $5000 or even better yet, $10,0000 to spend.

Like I said, no disrespect meant.

I thought of something else. If I had $1000 to blow on a gun, I'd be tempted to buy a RMR Glock 19 slide from Suarez International.

I would try to find an 'excellent-condition' M1 Garand...

It would be as a memento to my next-door neighbor Frank, who was a P-51 pilot during WWII, with 8 confirmed kills, and who was nominated for a CMH for saving a general's transport plane in air-to-air combat (it's quite a story) and for my wife's paternal grandfather, who carried one on D-Day (June 6) 1944 and survived Omaha Beach (he came ashore in the 3rd wave) and fought his way to visit France...Normandy...Belgium...to finally get to where he was going for his tour of Germany in 1945!

True...in today's world it takes more than $1K to really get anything nice. I stuck with the M-1 Garand with this thread, mainly because of it's historic value!

Easy... a new Smith & Wesson "Classic" 27-9 (357). I've been oogling this revolver for more than 6 months. Ran across one back in January, NIB, for a very fair price, and have been kicking myself for walking away since. It serves no practical purpose that isn't already met by something else in my stash, is likely much too large and heavy to carry comfortably for any length of time, really makes little sense to own at all... but I want one. I wouldn't wear it out in my lifetime, and with this $1,000 game we're playing, I'd have a bit of $$ left over.
