Ordered this CMP Special Rack grade M1 on November 2nd. It arrived on December 23rd.

It started life in July 1944 at the Springfield Armory. Per the Special Rack grade features, it came with brand new Walnut wood and a brand new Krieger Criterian barrel. The balance of the other parts is USGI with a smattering of new replacement small parts.

The major components (bolt, trigger group, op rod, etcetera) are all Springfield Armory. Only exception that I can find is the safety lever, which is Winchester.

I zeroed it at 50 yards, yesterday, and then went back to my 200 yard line to ring some steel. The rifle ran flawlessly with my 150 grain FMJ BT reloads.

The CMP has since listed this grade as "Sold Out - December 22nd"
Hopefully, this is just through the holidays and for them to get caught back up.

Yes, that is the case that the rifle shipped in, from the CMP.

Should be 0. The special rack grades come with a brand new criterion barrel installed.
Throat erosion gauge on a brand new barrel should read 1.75 on a US GI throat gauge. A barrel with erosion of 0 has no throat for the bullet in the cartridge, the rifling goes all the way to the chamber.
Yes, the gauges are marked 0 to 10 but if you look closely on a US GI gauge there is a small punch mark at 1.75 to indicate a properly cut throat in a newly chambered barrel.
A USMC armorer taught me that 32 years ago....

But effectively net zero. Thanks for the clarification.
