Went to Haspin last Halloween, and it was muddier than ever. Everyone got stuck or broke, and I had to use my tow rig to un stick them, even pull another tow rig and trailer up to less muddy ground.

I'd like to join the jeeper parade....

Like to have you experienced jeeper's advice on buying a wrangler...I think I want one w/the I6 and not fussy about tranny. want it for a daily driver.....mild off road.....and tow behind motor home. not looking for anything that has been modded, rather go with a stock one so I can build it my way. Everything I look at seems to have a bazzilon miles on it with rust starting.....cause I'm trying to stay between 5K and 10K. Any suggestions? feel free to PM me or email me at jonkertb at ccrtc dot com
    thanks

Where ever my GPS says I am
Worked on the Jeep today. Last Saturday this happened.

The sound was painful when two pieces rubbed.

I purchased two front 97 GRand Cherokee seats. They were full power, but since my XJ isn't power seats, I will have to wire up the seats for the lumbar and reclining.

XJ seat on drivers, ZJ in passenger.

Until I get time and help to wire them up, this will work.

Somewhat. You reuse the XJ sliding part, but the seats from the ZJ bolt right up to the XJ slides. If you have manual back and forth and power seats, you won't have power seats without a lot of work. If you want semi power like I have. When I hook them up, the reclining and lumber will be power, the back and forth won't.

My seats are shot, as well as the metal bracket that the seat slides on

here is a pic of my 1979 CJ7. I bought it as a basket case and it has turned into a 5 or 6 year long project. It has a stock 258 and a 3 speed trans. I installed a Tuff Country 2-1/2" lift with all new springs, shocks, bushings etc. New brakes all around, added power steering, new shaft etc. New front seats, tailgate, rear corner. Runs and drives great, but only when it's warm as I have no top or heater. Tires are the new Goodyear Duratrac 33 x12.50 x 15 on 10" DCII rims.

I dont own a Jeep yet but am looking to get one within the next few weeks as a new DD to replace my family min-van  and a SHTF vehicle, if need be, and I need some advice, opinions and recommendations on a few things from all the veteran Jeepers out there.
Im looking at the Cherokees because the Wranglers and CJ's are out with having a family of four plus two dogs to haul around and fishing/hunting gear. Id like to keep it as stock as possible for now, except maybe a lift and bigger tires. Its mainly going to see highway use and some light offroading from time to time but it would be nice to know that whatever I get can handle bigger obstacles.
What year Cherokee and engine size (I6 or the V8) would be the best overall choice especially in the gas mileage department. I know the I6 is the most sought after for its durablity and low end torque but lacks a little in the power department for highway driving verses the V8.
Also in the research ive been doing on the Cherokees, what tranny system would be the best to have the quadra drive, or selec trac, vari-lock diffs, trac lock diffs? Ive read mixed reviews on all the different options but most seem to prefer the selec-track (NP242 transfer case) and how can you tell (other than opening up the housings) what diffs it has.

Any opinions, advice or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

One more thing does anyone have any experience with the 4BT Cummins swap in a Cherokee?
