Parents freak out, because their daughter bought a small "gun safe" to protect her diary from her brother.
She doesn't have a gun, just a "gun safe".

    Sigh.

    That is truly nutty.

No need to have actual numbers or data. Feelings are all that matter.

I'd say at that level it's ideology. But yeah. She knows the numbers don't support it. She doesn't believe that ordinary citizens should be armed and is only making claims she can't back up to try gaslight people. Then when she gets called on it she claims it doesn't matter.

Religion, not just ideology. East Coast Eloi have a completely different view of the world.

Per the article..." Is there an outreach program for people like this?"

    Yes.
Someone should reach out and rearrange their dentrifice with knuckles (brass, preferably) or maybe a sap.
Might help 'em get their minds right.
Or, at least, we'd all feel better.

I think being publicly mocked and ridiculed would have some positive effects. But I admit it might not be as satisfying.

Apparently, there was a new thing going around FB where anti gunners tried to make the case that the Second Amendment reference to a “well-regulated militia” was a restriction in 1791 to one musket and 24 bullets. The actual fact of the matter is that it was the minimum requirement, not the maximum.

As a matter of fact, they can't even get their dates right for their claims. That minimum requirement wasn't even a thing until a year later when the Uniform Militia Act of 1792, was passed by congress a year after the claim asserts. The stupid fools will try any angle.
