My daughter grocery shops exclusively at Meijer, and every week for the last few months, Meijer didn’t have toilet paper, they didn’t have any pasta of any kind, they didn’t have potatoes and on and on and on, this past week it was applesauce pouches (she has a toddler). Every week we go to Kroger and they have everything, nothing is noticeably out of stock, so I’m wondering if it’s not just a matter of Kroger having more buying power?

All that being said, we always stay well stocked on things, and rarely ever need anything we don’t have on hand, I’m trying to convince the kids to do the same.

It may be purchasing power, but I bet it's also strength of logistics. There's a lot of steps between purchase orders and stocked shelves.

With advanced WMS software you can optimize your inventory to almost just in time for over 80% of the SKU's. However all hell break loose once someone wipes out an entire cycle of supplies.

That, and until robots take over, you need meat people at each step of the process to handle and deliver goods. Truck drivers, fork lift operators, stockers, pickers, etc.

Since we're discussing shortages, and the biggest, most concerning is food I thought this article was interesting.

Didn't click the link as I won't reward them with a view. Research globalresearch.ca before you put any stock in anything they publish.

    .
Out of curiosity, how do chain stores determine what goes to which store when? I thought about maybe by vendor, but obviously you won't get TP from somebody who makes cheese.

I'm not in to doom porn, but thanks. The supply chain will recover.

I used to say the threat of a pandemic was overblown, especially in the West, because of our healthcare system and technology. Yet almost two years later, it's still wrecking ****. Optimism can leave you unprepared if it's not tempered with a bit of wisdom.

Cool. That doesn't mean the supply chain is broken beyond recovery or food is now the weapon of the political elites/illuminati/lizard people. That's nothing to with optimism or pessimism, that's just not living in the fantasy land of doom porners.

Throwing out evidence that doesn't support your point of view is unwise.

Ok. We'll revisit this in a year and you can show me the mass starvations in America and how our supply chain remains broken because lizard people. I'm incredibly tempted to start bumping threads predicting us all starving and freezing to death on INGO from 10 years ago or more.

I can be wrong, so can you. If I'm wrong I've spent a little extra coin preparing for something that didn't happen, but with stuff I use anyway. If you're wrong, and act accordingly, you're left unprepared.

I can prepare to be in a car crash one day without believing gremlins try to cut my brake lines at night.

I'm prepared for things to go wrong and, just as importantly, for things to go right. I'm just not in to doom porn and the attention economy that fuels it.

Ok, that's fine. But you can still be wrong about it, just anyone else can. The last two years of virus pandemic crisis that isnt lends some credibility to the arguments of the other side.

Id like to see a few of these threads.....

I'll post up a few. If you'd like to see the precursors to today's conspiracy theories, just read the Survival Disaster Prep subforum from whatever period you'd like. Before my time, but "raiven" was posting some end of days stuff when the forum first started. Like when we are secret Defcon1 with martial law declared in 2008: https://www.indianagunowners.com/threads/us-issues-unprecedented-defcon-1-alert.10356/

But we'll ignore the various lizard people takeovers, Jade Helms, Obama's 3rd terms, and UN invasions to focus on food and energy prices.

Food shortages in 2 years (so, 2010):

https://www.indianagunowners.com/threads/food-shortage-looms.13427/ Link to article "Meltdown to hit agriculture, food shortage looms" now dead

    Economy will never recover (2009):

Pretty much the exact same as the "supply chain won't recover". Powerful people want it this way blah blah blah.

Our search feature sucks. Try pretty much any oil price thread during the Obama years. I'll post up a few more when I have time to sift through some old posts of mine.
