    A quick note or 3 (or 4)

1 ... Guy and others on FB saying to call Rep. Wendy Macknamara (R-76) 800-832-9841
to ask for a hearing on HB 1152 - She is committee chair on House Court and Criminal Code committee.

2 ... while time to file bills is "DONE" .... they still may be popping up (in not "INORDER") ... for example:

3 ... SB 127 - a hard NO, NO WAY and NO THANK YOU - uh - MA'AM ... by Sen Jean Breaux.
(requires 8 hr + ??? of training class to apply for LTCH) - referred to Sen Judiciary (to die, I think))

4 ... also - SB 263 (not read, yet) - handgun training for teachers - may be OK or maybe not. ...
I still like get rid of GFSZ and let people w/ LTCH carry. but you know I'm a crazed radical believing in right of people (LOL) anyway.

5 ... SB 9 (still don't know what it does , so I emailed Sen Tomes) is up for a hearing on 15th 9 am room 130

6 ... SB 16 (juvenile Delinq. w/ felony type convictions - expungement) ammended by senate and moving to final senate vote.

Brother Bill is right on the committee chair. This is one of the R's with an A-, that tells me she needs some encouragement.

She was the committee chair last year, the bill that significantly improved the Laird Law came out of that committee. Representative Schaibley (committee vice chair) was the bill author. HB 1152 has Jim Lucas's name on it.

I'm thinking with no agenda posted for the 15th the committee will meet on the 22nd.

Email, call, write, if this bill gets a hearing it'll get to the floor. We just gotta hope Nisly is out sick on amendment day.

SB 263, Holdman (his amendment killed Jim Lucas's bill last year). Below is from the summary, bold is why I will not support this.

Provides that, before an employee or any other staff member of a school corporation, charter school, or nonpublic school may carry a firearm in or on school property as authorized by a school board of the school corporation, charter school, ornonpublic school, the employee or staff member shall do the following: (1) Successfully complete certain specialized weapons training. (2) Provide proof to the school board that the employee or other staff member has successfully completed the specialized weapons training.

SomeOne double check me on SB127. On my quick reading, it sounds like we’re moving away from CC and towards a training requirement for getting a LTCH.

Thanks for the info GFGT. In no particular order:

HB 1273: this is SB 69, retired LEOs lawfully carry on school property.

HB 1152: Ran through my draft out loud tonight, under 5 minutes. I'm waiting for this one (lunch at Weber Grill, GFGT??)

HB 1297: Vernon Smith is anti-2A. Summary looks like USC 18 Sec 922 on prohibited possessors. Need to read full text, no trust here.

SB 127: requires 8 hours training for LTCH, hard no, no evidence mandatory training makes anyone safer.

HB 1383: Information concerning seizure of firearms. Rep Sharon Negele is one of the NRA-PVF A's on the Courts and Criminal Code Committee. Looking at the summary this looks like part of what was cut out of the bill that strengthened the Laird Law last year. This was a requirement to provide stats on firearms seizures under the Laird Law. When it got to the Senate Judiciary committee it had been cut out. I need to read the full bill, but I remember liking this in the original bill last year.

HB 1391 = HB 1273 = SB 69. Sheila Klinker is one of the few NRA-endorsed Dems in Indiana.

According to my reading, still no schedule on 1152 hearing yet. (They’ll probably do it on the one day I can’t come up there...*sigh*)

The courts and criminal code committee past 4 bills today, not a no vote anywhere. Must’ve been the low hanging fruit.

    We've got more bills!

HB 1028 (Jim Lucas, in the House Education Committee) Firearm training for teachers. This was up last year, got a poison pill amendment in the Senate (see SB 263, I stated my non-support a few posts back, same author in 263 as the poison pill last year.) I know there are differences here among the followers of this thread on this bill, I testified in support of the bill last year and will again this year.

Creates a specialized firearms safety, education, and training curriculum (curriculum) for teachers, school staff members, and school employees. Specifies curriculum requirements. Authorizes funds from the: (1) Indiana safe schools fund; (2) Indiana secured schools fund; and (3) school corporation and charter school safety advance program; to be used for the purpose of providing specialized firearms instruction to certain teachers, school staff members, and school employees. Requires a charter school, nonpublic school, or school corporation to ensure that a teacher, school staff member, or school employee who receives a grant from the Indiana safe schools fund forthe purpose of receiving specialized firearms instruction complies with certain requirements. Provides that the identity of any person who: (1) enrolls in; (2) participates in; or (3) completes; the curriculum is confidential.

HB 1211 (Nisly, assigned to Public Policy Committee) Constitutional carry of firearms. Need to read it...

Allows a member of the: (1) general assembly; (2) general assembly's professional staff; or (3) lobby registration commission; to possess a handgun on the Indiana government center campus if the person is not otherwise prohibited from possessing a firearm. Repeals the law that requires a person to obtain a license to carry a handgun in Indiana. Provides that a nonresident of Indiana may carry a handgun in Indiana without possessing a license or permit to carry a handgun from the person's state of residence.

If you mean for testimony that remains to be seen. If something good gets a hearing, I am going to make an effort, if I can get away from work.

Or do you mean am I staring to try to put together a RALLY.?
That answer is a yes, started talkimg today. Gonna spend some time this weekend. Or try.
