If it was actually sunny in winter for most of it, and there was actually a decent amount of daylight hours I would be ok with that. Its not, does not and so I am not OK with it.

i mean the physical reasons are anything above the 37th parallel do not offer enough sunshine hours to provide your body with the correct amount of vitamin d, leading to depression among other things. That doesn’t even take into account the cloudy gloomy days.
Lolol. I moved here from AZ and couldn't be less depressed. AZ is a sunny nightmare!

Having lived for many years in SW Texas, when we moved back to Indiana, it took a lot of years to get used to not having a lot of clear blue skies nearly all the time. I still get a little depressed with the long stretches of cloudy days here.
You should try living in West Michigan. Its nice in the summer being close to Lake Michigan, but the winter is awful. Every town in Indiana has more winter sunshine than West Michigan. December average is 63 hours of sunshine. Compared to Indianapolis at 105 hours in December, and Louisville at 119 hours.

If you read closely you'll see his wife picked the location for him. When you think about it, any good husband would do the same. Bob is being good for once. This is a rare moment and should be remembered.

At least it's not New Jersey. I'm not sure where the last place in the US I would look to live would be, but I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in New Jersey.

Can't you just take a vitamin D3? I know a couple of people that have special light bulbs inside their house that is supposed to help with people who who spend too much time inside. I wonder how millions of people have survived above the 37th parallel for thousands of years? How is the rest of INGO managing to function up here?

You're right. Everyone should just stay forever.

I've been taking D3 for years. Special bulbs merely seem to make my eyes twitch at this point. Why is everyone so damn set that no one should ever aspire to living someplace that makes them happier? Or at least warmer.

Depression works on people differently. Mine has been steadily getting worse when fall and winter arrive. What at one time was merely SAD is now something more steady and more prevalent. I've lived here almost 50 years. I've visited every state in this country. For most of my life, coming home to here was what felt right. It no longer does for us.

Why do you care what he wants to do, and how he is affected by things?

Ok now I get that you have issues, most of your posts in this thread including the one I quoted would indicate that Indiana was uninhabitable due to a lack of sunlight not that you have a condition that makes Indiana untenable for you.

no, from the very first post I stated that the gloomy winters and warehouse infestation are why we want to move. I've never said indianao was uninhabitable and will recommend it to people looking for a moderate place to live with decent schools, politics and CoL. I've been here almost 50 years I am ready for something else. Recommending MORE of the thing I am no longer willing to deal with is just silly. "Peanuts cause me to die." INGO suggestion: Have you tried boiled peanuts? They're softer to eat.

Seriously I would get the hell outta Indiana as soon as I could. Starting to plan an early exit will be something positive to help with your depression.
My depression was cured a couple years ago by buying another motorcycle. My wife says 2 motorcycles is enough so I'm not sure what I'll do this winter.

For me this year was rougher than normal. Breaking my collarbone in May and taking 7 months to get it right while missing out on all the things that builds up a tolerance to handle the winter here.... that was rough. I am not looking forward to January/Feb this year. Spending weekends at the track all summer long doing silly things with silly cars fills my tank for winter, but this is like that time I forgot to fill the car up before we got 20 inches of snow and -30* winds.

I did not interpret that first post as the same as you said in post 127 which was very very different. Saying that you don't like gloomy winters is very different than you have an issue with absorbing D3 causing health issues. Look at your post 104 that I quoted it said nothing about your personal issues but pretty clearly said anything above the 37th parallel does not provide enough sunlight. Those are your words not mine.
