I think this goes beyond cancel culture. I’ve been very critical of AWS for shutting down Parler. It should be a wakeup call to every company investing their entire products on AWS. Once you build it, it’s not like you can just move it. Parler would pretty much have to rebuild most of their components and services elsewhere. So this pretty much ends their capacity to make money.

Okay. So what’s Amazon’s side of it? Well, they say Parler was violating their terms of service by allowing people on their platform advocate and plan out violence. I really was not inclined to think Amazon would be able to defend this. Until I read the letter Amazon sent Parler. They gave examples of people doing those things that clearly break the terms of service. People openly talking about plans to assassinate Mike Pence for **** sake.

So while I disagree with big tech taking steps to squash free speech, this is not that. Amazon gave Parler several days to better moderate their platform but they were unable to do it. So Amazon pulled the plug. And as long as they can prove Parler violated the ToS, Parler will probably lose their lawsuit.
And what is it called when a very small group of companies control access to a good or service? The name escapes me, but I think there was a famous board game named after it. If all these major companies can limit you by their TOS, they have effectively taken away all your options.

The reason the high road is important is because there aren’t enough of you. You started getting some support from people during the rioting because at least the right wanted law and order and it was clear Democrats didn’t. So now you guys justify violence? You read these right wing sites that only present one side of it, bubbles form, and suddenly it sounds like the kind of radicalized speech I would expect from the likes of Antifa.

And I’m not trying to **** you guys off, which undoubtedly I’m doing. I’m trying to talk you down. I’m sure I’m failing miserably at that as well. Just don’t go off plotting assassinations like the people on Parler.
You're missing the point. His "high road" as he described it is turning the other cheek while we are getting massacred politically. Self-destruction is NOT a viable solution.

I don’t doubt that you might think it’s turning the other cheek. You can’t win by doing what they do. You don’t have a press willing to lie for you. What you have is a reputation most of you haven’t earned, thrust upon you by fiction. And then when you start playing the part, it fits as if you’ve always played it that way. You will lose.

And I agree. The snark is making us weary.

Make your point and do it in a civil way. A way that would be acceptable FTF or stop posting.

Did Parler violate Amazon’s ToS or not? Does Amazon have the right to say that their infrastructure can’t be used to advocate assassinating the Vice President or not?
The law suit will hinge on those questions more than whether they were acting to suppress a company’s business.

It doesn’t matter whether they care about Pence or what. What matters is that people used Parler to talk about assassinating the VPOTUS, which violated the ToS.

So if people use Gmail to discuss a crime they should be shut down? Or Twitter? Or Facebook? Or...? Does this only apply to conservative outlets?

I have watched the right take the high road all my life, and I have watched the left use it against us until we are where we are now.

I do not like it at all.

I also take great exception you using the terms myth and ruse.

If you think the election was not stolen by the low road cheaters, I have nothing else to say to you.
While my sentiments toward you certainly don't equal yours to Kut, then I guess all is said.

I stand by my use of the words myth and ruse, and I stand by my assertion that the high road is best. I have to answer to a higher power than Congress.

How is capitulating working out for us? How does it benefit our cause to parrot the left's horseshit that election fraud is a myth? How does it benefit us to let them attack 24/7/365 for decades while we smile like empty-headed fools while we get our sees handed to us by a relentless enemy?

Wait. Let's may sure we're talking about the same thing. Okay, so what if someone uses Gmail to discuss some kind of crime they commit. I think that would be clearly against Google's ToS. I think what would happen is that they would flag the email and deal with it, possibly call law enforcement.

Parler runs their app on AWS servers. Gmail runs on Google's servers. So it's not even possible for the Gmail example to analogous to Parler. But just as Gmail is expected to flag that email, Parler is expected and required by the ToS with Amazon to flag such posts and take the appropriate action. The one where someone was encouraging the assassination of Pence, shoul have been flagged, the authorities called, and the user who posted it banned or suspended. The problem was, AWS alleged that Parler wasn't doing that.

They were just letting the stuff go. And maybe it's an issue where they just don't have the expertise and technology to be able to do that. Gmail uses AI to read EVERYONE's mail so that they can sell you cheap **** from China. I'm pretty sure their bots also are designed to detect communications which break the law.

Clearly a better strategy is needed. But if you try the if-you-can't-beat-them-join-them strategy, you can't pull that off. You don't have the press for it. You don't control all the major societal institutions. All you'll do is make it easier for them to knock you down.

You've cut to the core of it here.
The only orgs with the potential to moderate in an automated fashion are FAANG, basically.
This goes to the core of 230, and the claims of monopolistic practice, and why in the end bug tech will probably be fine with regs... They can, upstarts can't.
    Remains to be litigated tho.
