you know deep down inside that you will not be tossing that 1911 in your go-bag.
You're right... why on earth would I take it off my hip and toss it in a bag? I soooo do not advocate carrying in a bag. :D
You are a pot-stirrer, you are.
    ;)
Even if I had a 1911, I would never shoot it, or carry it. The only thing I can think of that I would do with a 1911 is try to get rid of it. Maybe trade it for a real gun...

True, why would you take something that works off your hips to put into a bag, where it takes you 20 minutes to dig it out? Granted, in a SHTF scenario, im hoping that im running my SCAR and my pistol will be a last resort. Just like when I was overseas, I had a pistol that I carried everywhere, but when it came to it, even though I am not a big fan of the AR, im a fan of longer then 50 yards, and 30 rounds instead of 15.
As an INGO member has as a sig line, a 9 MAY expand, but a 45 will never shrink.
Also, its been killing enemies of the US since 1911, including in the modern war on terror. Only problems that ever came about was how worn some of them were getting. Since they had not ordered any new pistols since WWII, thats kind of a bad reason to get rid of a pistol. ANY pistol will wear out after being in service that long. Heck, the M9 is already failing, and its not been in service that long. Once again, plenty of failures with the pistol, mags, etc. Granted, I KNOW that the Glock runs way better then the Beretta, but, I'd still rather have a 1911 if I was given the choice. (And I have 2 Glocks, 22 and 23. I also have 3 1911s, and want to get more)

I can't choose just one. It may be blasphemy to do so but I can't do it.

A 1911 is like the prom queen. (Sophisticated, higher maintenence, gorgeous, almost everyone likes her.)

A Glock is like a hot Emo chick. (Crude, dark, unsophisticated, but she has a hard time getting everyone to accept her.)

    GREAT ANALOGY!!!! :ladiesman:

The myth continues. 1911's are not high maintenance. I have seen near as many FTF, FTE
etc so on and so forth from plastic as from steel. They are all machines and will eventually give you some grief.
Point is, even ugly girls need love, Yes........................;)

I have plastic, I have steel. They all do what they were designed to do.

The household refrigerator was invented in 1913. Are you 1911 guys sure that isn't too newfangled for your tastes?

Yes it was. It has (like the 1911) been improved upon over the years. The Colt I have that my uncle carried in Korea and the Nam is a cool "Old" gun but it is not anything to the measure of the newer 1911's I have acquired. You can actually see the improvements. My TRP is 5 times the gun that the "OLD" Colt is but the "OLD" Colt still shoots straight and runs just fine. We take it out to dance on occasion and have not had a bit of trouble from it. A bit clunky by comparison.
Now my 2 year old refrigerator, that is a different story. Darned ice maker.

Now if the Glock has the history around it in 100 years, that will be the standard then won't it.
Thing is, the 1911 will still be going strong I am sure.

Great analogy. Both still work, both have had modifications since then as well. An both are a great American invention. Course, when is the Glock of refrigerators coming out?

Yes, I serve two masters (probably more), I don't care if they are polymer or wood, blued or stainless. I just know that you can never have too many, or enough ammo.:biggun:

They are out. I have an LG which is spectacular. If you were using a fridge from 1913 you'd still be filling it with ice all the time...sorta like how you always have to refill a 1911.

They have double stack Para Ordinance 1911s. Those hold 14 rounds. So, there are variants out there too. Just pointing out.

Yep, but none of them work, because they weren't designed that way.

Seen the Texas Rangers get those issued. Pretty sure they are kinda rough on their pistols. I'd say that I could be mistaken, but I did ask the ones that I was working with at the time what they carried, since I was carrying the M11 at the time. They stated it was the Para, carried 14 in the mag, and that they worked great.

Sorry fella, but the issued sidearm for the Texas DPS, including the Rangers, is the Sig 226 in .357 Sig. A modern, high capacity firearm.

Well, first, I actually seen it when I was working Military Police Investigation. Second, here is a link, showing that they also carried Wilson Combat 1911s.

Tactical Life Guns Of The Texas Rangers
Here on this tread, you can see that they have a great deal of latitude on which firearms they carry, which many of them mention as well, 1911s and its variants.
what gun does texas rangers carry? - The Firing Line Forums

Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum -Texas Rangers Today

Here you can see that they also have the .357 Sig Sauer as well as the .45 Colt Automatic.

Once again, another thread, most of them also stating that they have seen 1911 and variants with the Texas Rangers
    Texas Ranger's & Their Guns? - 1911Forum

It maybe the issue pistol, but what most of them carry, is an entirely different story. Just like the American Special Forces community (all of the Special Forces, not just the Green Berets), they are issued the M9 or the M11, but what they all carry on missions, well, those are a lot different. I knew of more then a couple that I had seen overseas that carried 1911s still.

Yes, they have leeway in what they can carry, and many may carry a 1911, but I'm not seeing any evidence that those are issued, specifically a double stack para, a gun that is not known for reliability.
