I didn't want to highjack Spanky_27's garage thread, so, here's my question.

Anyone know of someone in Central / Southwest Indiana capable of building a traditional timber framed barn/structure along the lines of this: Barn Builders SOLID RUGGED BEAUTIFUL | Barn Builders SOLID, RUGGED, BEAUTIFUL Real wood timber frames

These guys are in Iowa. I haven't contacted them yet to ask if they'd come and stay for the week or so it would take to build a 3-car garage sized structure for me.

    And yes. :spend:+10

might try Amish communities in the Adams county and eastern Allen county. Been told there are some Amish folks that take down old barns and build barns from them. In Hartford City (Blackford county) there is a company that has old beams from barns they have taken down.. think there name is Hodup.. kinda pricey though. I have some Amish contractors that I am getting quotes on a horse barn that I can ask.. tomorrow I am also meeting with another Amish fella , I will ask him too. I will PM you any other info.. Tim

    Yes, please.

I second looking for Amish builders.

You are right. However, the interwebz is not the best venue to find such types. I trust you can guess why.

I think there's an outfit in Bloomington that does timberframe construction. Years ago, when we were thinking about building, I remember looking at their website and drooling.

If you can dig up a name, I would appreciate it. I am skeptical that I can afford it, but, I'm looking for a smaller structure. The farm I grew up on had two huge barns built in this fashion (12x12 main beams (no, they were sawmill cut, not hand hewn)). Only one of them stands today.

I think before I retired in 11/09 there was a place on the west side of 267 in between US 36 and I65 that did timber work. Sorry that is all I recall.

William Lasko in Martinsville could probably help you out......or at least put you in touch with the right people.

We built a post framed home once........it was a bear!

    Also:

If you have the time to wait on it:

Visit the State Fair and peruse all the vendor tables. There are plenty of builders represented.

Also the Hoosier Horse Fair ever summer. Same deal - lots of vendors. Granted, they're showcasing their horse-barn buildings...but easily adaptable (and probably cheaper) to not have stalls / tack room / feed storage / etc.

Heck, there might even be plenty of vendors at the Boat, Sport, and Travel show (Starts Friday!).

That's the name I was trying to think of. I did a search for timberframe builders last night in Bloomington and they didn't show up. I'm wondering if they're still in business.
