On the morning of January 8th, 2015 I never understood heroin addiction...No hatred towards the addicts but quite a bit of disdain towards them...On the morning of January 9th I looked down at what had been my stomach the morning before and saw an 8 inch open gash circling my belly button heading south to just north of my oldest friend...To the left of my belly button 3 inches was a large hole in which my intestines were sticking out covered by a bag...I began laughing...Relief that I didn't die and the sheer absurdity of what I was seeing before me....I remember thinking...."Aw heck...That's not so bad....I can live with that...."

Whenever I started thinking "I can't live with this..." I would press that little button and the morphine would kick in and 5 minutes later I was back to "That's not so bad...I can live with that..."

That night it hit me like a ton of bricks why so many heroin addicts (not all, but many) are prostitutes, porn stars, destitute, homeless, etc....Heroin/morphine/opiates make the intolerable tolerable...They make unimaginable circumstances doable...

That next night I quit pushing the button, so much so that the nurse came in and said I need to be hitting that button more...I told her I couldn't...I am going to have to live with this thing three months minimum and possibly for life and I need to mentally prepare for that...I explained that I have an extreme tolerance for pain (that's what got me there in the first place) and that I would cope....She agreed and said "Push it if you need it...."

My point is I see what you are saying (I think...I have been off before ) and point taken......

Did you ever consider that it's not so much hate, but that many people recognize that there really are other people out there who lack the will or even desire for basic self-preservation?
It's sad for the families involved and the collateral damage caused along the way, but how are you honestly supposed to deal with someone who basically sticks his hand in a fire and hopes that he won't get burned?

My disgusted source tells me one of the tainted heroin survivors who is in his late 20's will spend the rest of his life on a ventilator until the other organs damaged from the drug fail and then he dies.......

So one is the living dead.

Not just Indiana. I think (hope) that the legislators responsible for the increased restrictions on legal prescription opiates are getting a lesson in the law of unintended consequences. It would be an interesting statistical study to see the correlation between this uptick in heroin use and the frequency of pharmacy robberies and the timing of when said legislation went into effect. And I'm not defending those that were addicted to the "legal" drugs, but at least with the legal ones they knew what they were getting instead of this crap they're using as a substitute. I also know that correlation does not necessarily equal causation. I don't have an answer. Maybe it's just a "damned if you do and damned if you don't" kinda thing.
