Thinking about Pretoria

Does anyone remember being forced to sing “We are marching to Pretoria” in grade school? I think it was in the early 70s.
I would like to know why the schools made us sing this song. Also the song “This land is your land”
As I look into the origins of both songs, I think we were being brain washed.

I heard that song in the 1960's. It's roots are in native womans rights demanded by the non citizens of the Colony.

It was about people who were not citizens over running the legally established colony that we know as South Africa.
