Just post a copy of the instructions for flushing the toilet. I think I once read an abbreviated set of instructions (for a fleet boat's toilet) in Robb White's "Up Periscope" back in the late 1960s.
Not too hard for our toilets.
It was blowing them down that had more risks.

Or, in the case of an idiot, trying to pressurize the tank to blow back and clear a clog.
Which literally blew back. Right into the idiots face. Painting the wall brown, with a curious space empty of brown, where the body shielded the wall.
    A **** eating grin.
    Literally

Is all that nonsense just for the toilet or did the toilet just happen to be stuck there?

I'm not familiar with that particular toilet. I didn't take any pictures of toilets on my sub.

Generally, on the system we had, the toilets flushed into a holding tank, called a sanitary tank.
So, if you are going to use the toilet, you open the valve to put some water in the bowl.
    Shut valve back off.
    Poop
Pull the lever for the big ball valve to drain the bowl.
Open valve to put more water in bowl to help flush.
Then shut both the fill and empty valves.
Leave just a bit of water in the bowl, to help seal the valve. But not much, because if the boat does "angles and dangles", the water will wash out onto the floor, creating a slipping hazard.

Now, some of those valves, and gauges are for the watchstander that has to "blow down" (empty) the sanitary tank when it fills up.
When the tank fills, there is a long in depth procedure.
Things like, getting permission. You need to make sure Con knows that exterior valves are being manipulated, and weights will change affecting the balance of the sub. Also, they need to make sure we are not in a tactical situation, are shallow, and no know threats nearby.
Then all valves supplying the tank are shut.
Air blown into the tank, a specified amount above sea pressure.
Then the discharge valves are opened, allowing the tank to blow overboard.
When done, the discharge valves are shut.
    the air supply valve shut.
Then a bleed valve is opened, to bleed then sanitary tank pressure into the boat, making a smell.
    Then the bleed valve shut.
And the supply valves are opened. (Supply is things like toilets, sinks, drains, etc)
    Con is then notified.

    That was for my sub.
Some subs use pumps instead of air pressure.

Act, I envy and salute your knowledge and the memories, but being a cowardly claustrophobe, not the experience.
I've seen brave combat vets stop at the hatch into the sub, shake their head, and turn away.

It's just a matter of temperament.
I could never be a doctor, working on people's guts.

    Racial discrimination for medical treatment.

And people who want government healthcare, I have to ask, are you sure you know what you're going to get with that?

I've been in 2 submarines in my life: the U-505 at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. and the USS Bowfin in Pearl Harbor. Just the thought of being in one of those tiny cans with a few billion tons of sea water between me and sweet, sweet oxygen was bad, even as I peered through the periscope across a sunny parking lot full of cars at Lake Shore Drive.
