I been wrenching on saws for 25 years and the 372 is the best saw in the 70-75 cc saw class. I'm by no means disrepecting the 044-440 or even the 046-460 Stihl saws, they are fine saws, but a 372 does have a slight edge. It's a damned shame they are no longer being produced. Damned EPA regulations put the hurts on all chainsaws in stock form, but these regulations can be overcome with the right mods.

You said any stihl out there, and a 066 will eat that thing for lunch.

I didn't say any Stihl out there, I was comparing a 044-MS440 to the 372 and I sure hope an 066 will eat a 372 for lunch since it's about 21 cc bigger saw. If your going to compare an 066 to a Husky try a 394XP or 395XP much close to specs.
Actually if you put a 20" bar on an 066 and one on the 372, or even a 044 and race them cutting 20" cants the 372 and the 044 would more than likely win the race since they both are, or at least should be cranking out more RPM. Now if they both were running 36" bars in large wood the 066 would walk away from the 372 and the 044. I know for a fact my 044 is faster in smaller wood than my 066. The 066 is my favorite saw cutting big wood. I actually am a Stihl man, but Husqvarna does make a several bad ass saws and the 372 is one of them

I use a MS 170 for little stuff, for $180.00 is has far exceeded my expectations. This little saw has been used a bunch. The 170 has been very reliable and a easy starter. For big stuff my Husq 372XP is a serious weapon, you know you have a wicked machine in your hands. I have a Stihl gas blower and a straight line trimmer both quality stuff.

Yep, I have a 026 bought back in the 90's; I couldnt tell you how many cords of wood that thing has cut. They cost a little more but they are well worth it.

On the MS 170 I put on a different bar and sprocket to accommodate a better chain. The stock chain is like a 'safety/homeowner' type of chain. You expert guys might be able to explain the chain types better.

Yes, those chains are pretty thin compared to the ones are my larger saws. I thought about doing that but think I will wait until I wear my bar/sprocket out.

I own a landscaping company and we run all stihl products. Saws, blowers, trimmers. The kombi system is great for homeowners looking for a variety of tools

It was given to me by my grandfather 6 years ago. He purchased it new in 1972. I tore it all down and cleaned it all up. My grandfather had all the reciepts, and owners manuals in a file that he gave me also. After a little googling I found out this was the exact model used in the original 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. I'm proud of my 41 year old chainsaw. Cuts like a BEAST.
