Makes me wonder what isn't an essential job...

Tanning salons, educators, home furnishing and clothing retailers, entertainment, probably a lot of gov't employees...

Most of our staff won't be here; they'll be maybe four people in an 18,000 sq ft facility.

I waited until almost dark to venture out of the house for the first time 5 days. I've had a turkey in the freezer at work since Thanksgiving (they gave us one, but didn't let us know first, so no room at home) so I wanted to go grab it... and there's a car wash by work so if I'm not going anywhere for 2 weeks I figured I could get the salt off of it.

US 20 is almost creepy to drive on. A few trucks and not many cars. A couple of odd things I noticed is that several of the trucks I saw tonight were open flatbeds with reflective tarps covering their loads. I've never noticed that in any sort of large numbers before. Probably just never noticed before. :tinfoil:

Social distancing at the car wash was not a problem, but I was surprised to see one other person there. Washed my car and split up to the gas station to top off.

I paid $1.54/gallon for gas! I'm betting it's close to 20 years now since that happened to me last. The station I went to was very well supplied inside too. Plenty of milk, snacks, drinks, even a few rolls of paper towels. One odd things that happened is a sleep cab semi (obviously with no trailer) pulled in to a regular gas station, not a truck stop. He and I were the only ones there. No clue what he needed, but he was in and out. I didn't actually even see the guy.

Tried to stop off the Dollar General on the way home but it looks like they're closing at 9 now. I don't know how late is usual for them as I don't shop there much. Anyhow... Looking through the front doors, they also seemed reasonably well supplied. All the snacks you could want at and least a few dozen things of paper towels were visible.

The last thing I noticed that struck me as odd as 2 different truckers were driving a little crazy. One guy straight up blew a red light so bad that I'm lucky I tend to always check before entering an intersection and another guy was going down 20 with his brights on the entire distance I was with him (miles). I'm going to guess neither guy did it on purpose as I'm sure they're under a lot of stress right now, but, be advised: maybe make sure you give our trucker friends a little extra space and time these days. I'm happy to see them, but I don't want to see them that close.

So... All is well! I'm usually a home body anyhow, and 5 straight days in the house is basically my dream come true, but it was nice to see the world is still out there.

    Carry on!

Mercy sakes alive, looks like we got us a convoy
Was the dark of the moon on the sixth of June
    In a Kenworth pullin' logs
Cab-over Pete with a reefer on
    And a Jimmy haulin' hogs
We is headin' for bear on I-one-oh
'Bout a mile outta Shaky Town
I says, "Pig Pen, this here's the Rubber Duck
"And I'm about to put the hammer down"
'Cause we got a little ol' convoy
    Rockin' through the night
Yeah, we got a little ol' convoy

Come on and join our convoy
Ain't nothin' gonna get in our way
We gonna roll this truckin' convoy
    'Cross the USA
Convoy! (Ah, breaker, Pig Pen, this here's the Duck)
And, you wanna back off them hogs? Convoy
Yeah, 10-4, 'bout five mile or so.
Ten, roger. Them hogs is gettin' in-tense up here
By the time we got into Tulsa Town
We had eighty-five trucks in all
But they's a roadblock up on the cloverleaf
    And them bears was wall-to-wall
Yeah, them smokies is thick as bugs on a bumper
They even had a bear in the air!
I says, "Callin' all trucks, this here's the Duck
"We about to go a-huntin' bear"

We tore up all of our swindle sheets
And left 'em settin' on the scales
By the time we hit that Chi-town
    Them bears was a-gettin' smart
    They'd brought up some reinforcements
    From the Illinois National Guard
There's armored cars, and tanks, and Jeeps
    And rigs of ev'ry size
Yeah, them chicken coops was full'a bears
    And choppers filled the skies
Well, we shot the line and we went for broke
    With a thousand screamin' trucks
An' eleven long-haired Friends a' Jesus
    In a chartreuse micra-bus
Ah, Rubber Duck to Sodbuster, come over
    Yeah, 10-4, Sodbuster?
Listen, you wanna put that micra-bus in behind that suicide jockey?
Yeah, he's haulin' dynamite, and he needs all the help he can get
Well, we laid a strip for the Jersey shore
    Prepared to cross the line
I could see the bridge was lined with bears
    But I didn't have a dog-goned dime
I says, "Pig Pen, this here's the Rubber Duck
"We just ain't a-gonna pay no toll"

Well, these are trying times so I'm not wagging fingers at the truckers we need to bring us things. I'm just saying it's probably a good idea to give 'em a little extra space.

Great song, unfortunately the new breed of drivers refused to have a CB in the truck, they text away regardless of the huge $$$ fines and losing their CDL, and what ones do are constantly saying they "Ain't wear'n no panties"

If drivers had radios in their trucks there would be a lot less multiple vehicle wrecks because of "break check" shout outs.

Man, now I can’t get this outta my head.

I stopped by Walmart tonight and there was hardly any canned goods not a lot of frozen food no pizzas at all. I grabbed the last pack of any type of beef, a chuck roast. No pork or chicken. It really hasn't gotten any better at least not when I'm able to be at the store. I think some of this is because we gained a couple people in grant county and rumors of a couple more. I work with a guy that's in self quarantine and waiting on his test results he tested negative for all the other common stuff. Both jobs have me as essential employee I expected one but not the other. So now I have a couple pieces of paper to keep as souvenirs.

Hit St.Louis about 1600 headed westbound didn’t slow down at all on I64 traffic was beyond light. Hours of service is off DOT has closed all the scales I have witnessed. Bull racks are running full tilt 80 mph and up please stay away from any semi you see.

On the local front all is quite and peaceful wife traded BIL bread for eggs, local farmer is putting two milk cows down next week I put in for a half of a cow.

Thank you for posting that. I was really worried the INGO truckers would rain fire and brimstone down on me for making that observation. I'm all for letting the trucks roll in this time of need, but not over us.

    Stay safe out there!

Local drivers on the highways in downtown Indy are getting bold too. Lots of speeders and crazy lane changes, running up on you and swerving at the last second. I’m on day seven of ten straight at work and haven’t seen a trooper once since I started my rotation.

Overall traffic seems to be a good 1/3 of what is usually is, especially during rush hour.

This. There is no speed limit on the highways anymore... 465 is truly a racetrack.
