Ukraine managed to take out some TU-95 bears.

Its pretty much as if someone managed to take out some B-52s.. (which in full disclosure, North Vietnam did manage)

I believe those were B-57 Canberra bombers that got mortared while on a show of force at... Da Nang IIRC. The BUFFs flew out of Guam.

Air Force history was a lot easier before Slick Willie started "Providing" and "Denying" something everywhere CNN showed up with a camera.

Sadly the B-52s in North Vietnam fell prey to SA-2s or Migs.

The B-52Ds had enough jammers crammed in them to confuse the SA-2s well enough, the issue came when they sent a few B-52Gs to sub for damaged B-52Ds, the SA-2s tended to target those. The MiGs got a few too, but the B-52s got a few migs with 50 cals though.

Boris: What the hell am I looking at Yuri?

Yuri: That is the Pikachu Dance Boris.

Boris: I thought Pikachu Dance was code-name for super-secret weapons system.

Yuri: No that's Pinto Delta, at least that's what I found on the Internet search.

Boris: So what is a Pikachu?

    Yuri: Very cute Pokemon character.

Boris: What the hell is a Pokemon?

Yuri: It's, never mind Boris. Lets go hotwire uber-cool German SPAAG and shoot the hell out of something with twin 35mm cannons!

Boris: I'm in Yuri! I'll write my name with that smoke-wagon!

    20mm in the tail.
H model only. None of which got anywhere near Nam due to their value.

    G and earlier models

The A through F had manned tail turrets with radar aimed quad 50s.

The G had a remote radar aimed quad 50s.

The H had a remote M-61 20MM turret on the rear, at least until a HARM in IRAQ confused one for a SAM site.

For sone reason I thought the rear gunner had been removed by Vietnam for the 20mm.

Look at the picture again. Pretty sure those are Russian bombers. Canberras had a more or less straight wing.

No, at Da Nang back in the day in reference to another post about Vietnam. The recent pictures up thread, definitely bears a.k.a. Tu-95s.

Jeez, you'd think that overhead concealment would be a higher priority given how widespread drone usage has been.

I think you're talking history to folks that don't even know what water injection is
Who knew, spraying water into a turbojet gave you a bit more kick.

Sadly its one of the reasons the B-52G model is no longer with us. The air force got tired of dealing with it.
