I'm going to ask this because I'm completely ignorant how this works... Let's say they vote tomorrow and it passes and the Governor signs it Friday. When does the law take effect?

Normally in July unless the bill has an "emergency effect" provision.

Both 1022 and 1424 say 1 July 18.

Tried asking Rep. Lucas on his FB page about the status and all he says is he's working on it. He seems preoccupied with weed and booze this term, honestly.

I understand smelling a win, and it's unusual for a conservative to be pro med-MJ (I guess), but this is an old battle that's gaining ground all the way around us (except Illinois but they don't count). One guy is keeping it from a vote. Again. Why can't we get pressure on him? Can you feel the frustration? Ha.

Yes I can. I'm not prepared to say Lucas has given up on it but shortly after the summer study thing concluded, simply by going by what I see him posted on his FB page, his energies were....umm....diluted, if not considerably redirected to these other issues. I could be wrong and hopefully I'm being too cynical and completely misreading this but I'm not sure he even thinks it's got a chance...AGAIN.

From Jim's perspective - IF he has aspirations of DC - the future of conservatism in the US (IMHO) is to pick much better "hills to die on". There are so many that conservatives in the past have died on and lost elections because people quite honestly - conservatives too - don't want to fight those battles any more. We want a growing economy and a balanced budget. I think conservatives that want to win better have answers that are further from "moral" issues, and closer to economic ones. Kentucky is making a HUGE amount of money in medical MJ. That's how you turn a moral issue into an economic one...and if a conservative wins a battle like that one in "conservative" Indiana, he may see himself headed to DC (if that's where he wants to go).

I honestly don't know. I know if you follow his FB postings it does come up - rarely - but I've seen it thrown out. You never know who's serious and who's not. Jim is a business man in Seymour and I don't know if he wants to leave that.

Conservative is a pretty diverse landscape. Fiscal issues are probably the issue most common to the most conservatives. So I'd say you're right about that. And if it's the 9th district, I'd be down with that too. I'm not all that sure about Hollingsworth. I'd be more sure about a guy like Lucas.

I am speculating - but between the similarities - and differences - and co-authorships - and shared committee roles....

if an amendment to 1 or the other is not being developed behind the scenes (as happens)
and then they will bring that 1 to the committee with the combined amendment in place.
in an effort to make it "best of both" to draw in more votes and support ...

He has made what appears to be calculated moves...and I'm thinking of the gas tax specifically. For a guy that quotes Ayn Rand, posts Batist quotes, taxation is theft and socialism sucks memes, and the like, for him to roll on the gas tax as quickly as he did, without questioning its government expansion tend to indicate the possibility he is posturing for higher office. And maybe he's been told by the party leaders that the constitutional carry thing just ain't going to happen. I say that and I would, on the other hand, think marijuana legislation would be a non-starter too by the party. I don't know. All I know is his energy this session does not appear to behind the gun stuff like it has been in years past. I sincerely hope I'm mistaken.

Nah...I can't see him primarying Hollingsworth. I haven't followed every vote of Hollingsworth but hasn't he tended to vote "the right way" since being in office?
