Perhaps it's easier to flip a fatter bullet into the barrel? Why isn't there "a lot of room in the platform to feed a 10mm"?
There seems to be enough room to feed 45 Auto.

Hard to say why 10mm would cause problems feeding but there are obvious differences. Why isn't there "a lot of room in the platform to feed a 10mm"?

10mm | .45 ACP | |
Bullet diameter | 0.4 in | 0.451 in |
Case diameter | 0.425 in | 0.473 in |
Case length | 0.992 in | 0.898 in |
Overall length | 1.26 in | 1.275 in |
Chamber pressure (SAAMI) | 37,500 psi | 21,000 psi |
Case capacity (water grains) | 24.1 grains | 26.7 grains |
Well the 10mm has a smaller diameter and a smaller maximum overall length than the 45 Auto so whatever issue there may or may not be is probably not related to room.Hard to say why 10mm would cause problems feeding but there are obvious differences.
10mm has a longer case than .45 ACP, but .45 ACP has a larger diameter

You are correct we have them in themEast where we hike, but have not had occasion to come across one. Apparently they are more interested in causing property damage to vehicles.Tennessee has bears (somewhere). Therefore you NEED the 10MM.
So it’s all steel? In a Government Frame, yeah that must be enjoyable to shoot. Trying real hard to find a reason not to pick one up.I have the 9mm Specialist 5". You won't have buyer's remorse. It's everything beautiful about a 1911 with the economy of 9mm.
I'm as much a 45acp purist as any 1911 lover, but this setup is like a squirt gun. And silly accurate.

One of the original problems with the 1911 and 10mm is the higher pressure. It was cracking Colts and others frames.Hard to say why 10mm would cause problems feeding but there are obvious differences.

OK, thanks. I am no expert, hell I'm not even a novice in firearms theory and design. I just a did little research. One of the original problems with the 1911 and 10mm is the higher pressure. It was cracking Colts and others frames.
45 ACP 19,900
10 MM. 33,000

Matte Stainless, yes. You have two choices - bead blasted (matte stainless) or the DW proprietary duty finish. Is that the matte stainless finish or something else?
Psi?
I would take the 9mm over 10mm any day of the week. Unless it was going to be a hunting handgun. The 9mm ammo is simply a lot more affordable to shoot . Even reloading a lot cheaper.Great now here comes the problem. I take a glance over the display case and there it is a Dan Wesson specialist In 10mm. So I figured why not at least handle it. Very impressive so now I want one. Only question is to go for 10mm or the more affordable option of 9mm
Thoughts?
Gotta ask, how did you do that?I'm no expert. But I did ruin a 10mm barrel.
I still don't want to talk about itGotta ask, how did you do that?

Now it sounds like you are trying to talk yourself out of it. Don't be a negative nelly. We do some hiking but for the most part we have not come across any bears.
