So today we made our every so often trip to Sam‘s Club, I have the bright idea let’s stop by the lgs to check their class schedule for Tennessee Permit class, yes they are old school No on line schedule or sign up. Well we confirmed that they offer a one day class and they do not have a minimum age.

Great now here comes the problem. I take a glance over the display case and there it is a Dan Wesson specialist In 10mm. So I figured why not at least handle it. Very impressive so now I want one. Only question is to go for 10mm or the more affordable option of 9mm

    Thoughts?

You’ll need a really cool holster with that. Get the 10mm, you only live once.

Do you have a reason to get the 10mm? If you do and/or money is a disposable thing that you have plenty of, go for it.
Well at the store they were asking $40.00 a box for fmj ! Just checked some online stores looks like they range 23 to 27 a box for fmj.

That still seems steep! 9mm May more in my frugal price range.

I'll explain a little, there isn't a lot of room in the platform to feed a 10mm and ftf would be a concern. The round would have to ramp up at a sharp angle, the end of the barrel would tip it back a little more and flip it into place.

    I have the 9mm Specialist 5". You won't have buyer's remorse. It's everything beautiful about a 1911 with the economy of 9mm.

I'm as much a 45ACP purist as any 1911 lover, but this setup is like a squirt gun. And silly accurate not to mention (for me) 100% reliable.

Note: current DW Specialist models do not support 9mm in the Commander configuration. It's gov't only. If you want commander, you need to go 45ACP.

Why isn't there "a lot of room in the platform to feed a 10mm"?
There seems to be enough room to feed 45 Auto.

Good point. I personally had trouble with it. Even the Delta had problems with ftf. I think 45 is the magic bullet.

Unless you have a specific use-case for the 10mm, as much as I hate to say it, I'd go with the 9mm. If it's just going to be a range gun, or even a carry gun for an urban environment, there's no point in paying double for the ammo and as result cutting your shooting time in half.

Also, 9mm 1911s are fantastic shooting handguns with minimal muzzle flip and flat recoil. I don't think you'll regret it.
