IMHO regardless if you are an average guy at the range giving a gun to someone else to shoot or a prop guy handing a prop gun to someone. You are handing a potentially deadly weapon to to someone and you carry some responsibility to make sure they are aware of how to safely handle that weapon. Also, if someone hands me a gun I check it see if it's loaded or clear. I get a prop guys job is to ensure that gun is either clear, loaded or hot with blanks and to hand it over to someone playing pretend. But, I would think the extra measure of whoever you are handing that gun to witnessing and verifying clear or loaded should be part of the process. Both people have to be able to take responsibility for their actions.
I can't imagine why there would ever be live ammo anywhere on a set unless it was 100% to record actual live fire under safe conditions.
Regardless how much of an Ahole he is this shouldn't have been able to happen

They film a fight scene so that actors only "look" like they are punching someone.
They do this with training, and the camera angle.

They can do the same thing with guns.
So that it only "looks" like it's pointed at someone.
Seems I read long ago when Brandon Lee was killed it was standard that actor were told to do that, not point gun directly at the person, just in case. Somebody sure wasn't doing their job here.

If someone handed me a ”prop gun” I’d still check the chamber and magazine (or cylinder) to see what the hell was in it. And I’d still never point it at another human being and pull the trigger. Sounds like there was a whole lotta stoopid to go around on this one and the only winners are going to be the attorneys.
Well to be fair, you're not a californian.

Could we have a show of hands

If there was no chamber failure or other explosion, how many expect Baldwin to take responsibility for lack of safe handling/muzzle discipline?

How many expect him to blame the gun?
It's probably the prop guy/armorers fault. He's an actor and a californian, and much like a child, shouldn't be expected to act responsibly with a weapon.

To the town of New mexico rode a stranger one fine day
Hardly spoke to folks around him, didn't have too much to say
No one dared to ask his business, no one dared to make a slip
For the actor there among them had a big iron on his hip
    Big iron on his hip
It was early in the filming when he rode into the town
He came riding from his trailer slowly lookin' all around
He's an actor loud and whining, came the whisper from each lip
And he's here to do some acting with the big iron on his hip

Confirmed by someone in the industry.

"And it’s also important to note that the entire camera department (Minus the DP and B cam operator) quit the day before due to safety concerns and payroll issues. So there was already a track record of unsafe practices before this happened."
Well that article has apparently been scrubbed already.

I think this will not further their agenda. I think it will be the opposite.

Lot more gun owners than ever now. And "we" are a lot more educated than ever also.

On top of that, everyone knows Baldwin and the way he is.

Then there is the union angle. They cannot let this just fade away.

This isn't about guns, it's about negligence. The crew of this movie set is guilty of negligence. Maybe all of them? Except those who walked off the set, knowing it.
A crew walk-off and a live round appears in a prop gun....

There may be more here than at first appears.

Motive established, assailant known to have radical rage fueled outbursts, "prop guy" not being recognized by the company he was supposedly representing...

Someone remind me how any rational person is going to think this is an accident? At the very least this is manslaughter by both baldwin and the prop guy.

But as more tidbits of the story come in, it's sounding very well planned out.
