"The old Winchester drops less than the Creedmoor at all ranges."

    :)
I will always enjoy my 270win

"In energy, velocity and drop, the 270 Winchester wins. In wind deflection, recoil, cycling speed, and potentially compact rifle size (short action,) the Creedmoor comes out on top."
Dont forget cost! 6.5 is half the cost. 270 is definitely tried and true!

Grew up shooting mainly 38/357 handloads and factory. Smith 19/686/66 ect. Double action single action. So the 40/357 sig p229 is now my mainstay. 40 normally and 357 sig when it is a formal occasion. Lots of 40 hate.love it.

i think I might have mentioned 22 hornet because the brass is brittle. 17 Remington or any sub caliber round because of copper fouling (not the rounds fault) 22 mag in an auto pistol because it does not work. (Not the rounds fault)

I would agree with 45 colt. I hardly ever see it for sale, when I do it is expensive and seems to be mainly cowboy action wimpy stuff. Seems like a reloaders cartridge now to me.
One of my favorites because I can reload it so cheap especially with casting the lead projectiles.

You should read what the guides are saying in the west and Alaska. Seems that 10mm is getting to be the favorite protection round against bears and mountain lions. I suspect the weight difference between the 44 mag and 10mm along with the higher cap magazines might be it but who knows, not a whole lot of difference in energy.
    My 6.5" 44mag shoots 180gr bullets at 1756fps
    My 5" 1911 10mm shoots 180gr bullets at 1247fps
    44mag energy: 1232 ft lbs
    10mm energy: 621 ft lbs
This load is considered full power, but I can get over 1300fps if i has some 800x.

44mag is almost 2x more powerful than a 10mm both loaded full power.

I love 10mm myself, but it isn't anywhere near a 44mag energy wise.
Now 357mag yes 10mm will win energy wise.

That doesn't sound like 100% full high loaded 10mm Auto..
Buffalo Bore lists 1351fps/728 ft lbs in their 180 grain JHP. from a 5 inch barrel.

We have a guy who uses this from a Hi Point carbine on hogs..

Have you shot it through a chronograph?
A lot of ammunition does not live up to its velocity.
Like I said if I had 800x my avg velocity would be over 1300fps. Can't remember off hand exactly my fps just remember it being over 1300.
Now with no 800x I'm stuck with whatever powder I have on hand and that's what the avg is.
I Imagine Underwood, and Buffalo Bore will adjust their velocity if they have ran out of 800x also.
Carbine length barrel should give you around 1500+ fps with a 1351fps velocity from a 5" barrel.
800x is no longer being made so I think a lot of ammunition boxes are still printed with the old velocity.

Full power 10mm is not velocity as much as its using the full amount of powder allowed pressure wise for 10mm. Longshot, and CFE Pistol pressure is much higher than 800x. 800x gave the fastest velocity for the similar pressure.
For Longshot or CFE Pistol to get the velocity of 800x loads they both would be +P or +P+.

Only seen it chronoed from the hi point carbine.. I forget what the FPS was exactly, but it was in the 1500FPS range.

    200gr WFNGC bullet.
    CCI 350 primer
    Remington Nickel plated brass.
    9.6gr 800x
    COL: 1.260
FPS: 1258 5 shot avg. Chrony was 10' from muzzle.
    4.5" Barrel. Glock 20sf

This was my favorite 800x load.
Note back then I uses Magnum LP primers.
Found out it didn't change velocity one bit using LPP.
