As much as Chip wants to say they don’t, they do, as there are few that do not also own cars therefore paying road tax, but there is other money besides gas tax that has been spent over the years to build roads.
By that logic if I'm paying registration/plate/fuel taxes on one of my motor vehicles, I shouldn't have to plate/register any of the others. And should be able to legally run untaxed fuel in them.
So what is the catalyst for your contempt for cyclists? If you see a cyclist run a stop sign why do you care? Not hurting you. I thought you were all about freedom?
For myself, as long as they aren't interfering with others right of way or endangering others I couldn't care less if they don't come to a complete stop. Same with motor vehicles and pedestrians. But on a per capita basis, I'd say that more bike riders will blow a stop sign with no regards than motorists.

That's a good point. This thread was never really all that serious. Like I said, it kinda has the seriousness of pineapple on pizza. But it's a bit more than that. Sometimes dudes take sides to extreme levels and bend themselves out of shape over it. And once they do that, it's like blood in shark infested waters. Once you expose your sensitivities in front of other dudes, you're wearing one of these.

I thought you were against straw men. Virtually no one who wishes to use the roads with his/her bicycle uses the bicycle as their sole means of transportation. Essentially every cyclist has a car or a couple of cars, so they paid as much into the kitty as anyone else. They just want to use the roads occasionally in ways that you don't approve of, so you try to gin up some specious argument that they aren't paying their way

Why because they pay taxes on one or more vehicles do you think they should be able to use any of their vehicles including ones that no taxes for roads were paid on on said roads? As I said in another comment if I pay registration and use taxed fuel in one of my vehicles, I shouldn't have to in any of my others?

The people could tax bicycles if they wished but they choose not to. Why do some of you get so wrapped up in that?

Why do you get so wrapped up in they pay taxes on a motor vehicle, so they pay for any vehicle they choose to use on a road?
Can we find some common ground?

What about skateboarders? Eh? **** those guys. Am i right?
I'm pretty sure under the IC that skateboards are bicycles. Seriously. So yeah **** those guys.

The point I intended to make is that saying people only pay for roads when they are 'motorists' is like saying people only pay for the ski resort when they are actually skiing, not when they're at the restaurant or bar or back in their room banging the drum

You can try the only paying taxes on one vehicle thing if you want but I wouldn't advise it, and my bicycles are untaxed because the state does not license them or collect fees nor forbid me from riding them on the roads. The fact that those 'vehicles' are untaxed isn't on me. Do you also complain about people with kayaks not paying boating fees? Sounds like you should take it up with your congressman

Because without the 'I pay for the roads and cyclists don't' argument they got nothing to support the assertion they have a greater right to use the roads than someone else does

They probably also think that only ticket holders have to pay for the Colts, too

Why do you get so wrapped up in they pay taxes on a motor vehicle, so they pay for any vehicle they choose to use on a road?
Why can't you see that they pay taxes on every vehicle they have and has such have fulfilled any legal obligation to pay for the roads and are entitled to full access

Do you pay any taxes that you're not required to?

Only the taxes on motor vehicles pay for the roads. Your ski resort analogy would be closer if you used a person who rented a room for one night and decides to stay another for free because they didn't forbid it, and that the free night was supporting the resort.

Why can't you see that they pay taxes on every vehicle they have and has such have fulfilled any legal obligation to pay for the roads and are entitled to full access

Do you pay any taxes that you're not required to?
Yes I can see that they have fulfilled their legal requirements, but that doesn't mean that paying for one vehicle actually covers all their vehicles use of the roads. Roads were designed, built for, and paid for by taxes on motor vehicles. What taxes on a bicycle which is also a vehicle pay for road use?

    And nope I sure don't.

It's still not a straw man. Any cyclist who has funded roads has done so by virtue of also being a motorist: owning and operating a motor vehicle on public roads. Thus, it is absolutely true: cyclists don't fund roads; motorists do.

I 100% guarantee you that there are cyclists in Indiana who do not own or operate motor vehicles.

They just want to use the roads occasionally in ways that you don't approve of, so you try to gin up some specious argument that they aren't paying their way
Speaking of straw men... nowhere have I said anything about cyclists using the roads in ways that I don't "approve of".

I would be willing to bet that what I pay in taxes destined for road use is above the median, all of you slackers should get off my roads

And to take the canard fully to ad absurdum, the people driving full size V8 pickups and getting 13-16 mpg should have superior rights to the road given their level of 'contribution', while those driving battery electric vehicles should also be banned because they aren't paying their way
Funny you should say the latter. I'm not sure if it's happening (yet) in Indiana, but in some states, EVs are actually being charged more for vehicle registration/licensing, to recoup what they are not contributing in the form of gasoline taxes.
