    In the country, hopefully.
Not on 70 but easy to get to and closer to you - Charlestons in Westfield.
Not a chain (ok technically is but not like any of the "y"s or "i"s), nice sit down reasonably priced with a huge menu all good.
    Highly recommend.

If this was a poll, I think Sal's in Plainfield has the most mentions.

I've been to Sal's, and can add another +1 to the mix. I don't get to Plainfield often, but have been a couple times just to go to Sal's.

Just east of Indy in Greenfield is The Depot just a few miles south from 70. There is also a Montana Mikes Steakhouse and Cracker Barrel at the same exit.

As mentioned previously Foxgardin Family Kitchen (@104th St) and Goodfellas (@ 96th St) are good spots away from the national chains.
And there’s Ale Emporium (@116th St) on Mt Comfort Rd is 10 minutes from 70.

As someone pointed out, they will not be able to go across 70 thru town, so route them around to the north and you have Montana Mike's at 465 and 86th street. Great steaks and your dad can check out a bison burger.
Also the opportunity for Ruth Cris at 465 and Keystone if you have a co-signer.
Castleton has the Ale Emporium at 86th and Allisonville, which is only a block north of 465.
Either of the places would be closer for you.

Totally forgot about this place on the east side, just a couple of miles south of I-70. Really good food!

I wonder if they're owned by the same people as El Azabache at Southern Plaza near me. Menu looks almost identical, and they even have the same decor with the big fountain in the middle.

They're all laundromats for cartel drug money. Basically all the same.

Out of curiosity, I put "El Azabache" through Google translate and it means "Jet". So yeah, I could see a cartel/gang association... ;)

    My comment was purple-ish.

There really was a lawsuit with one of the common name ones dealing with money laundering. My buddy worked in the attorney General's office during that time and now refuses to eat at that restaurant.

I do think they all have the same company making their furniture/decor, that's for sure. They all have the cheesy child-like paintings of people and animals, etc..

I've always thought there was a Chinese restaurant in a box starter kit because they all have the same pictures for the menu, even if it doesn't look like how they prep the dish. Maybe Mexican restaurants have the same thing.

You know what else is weird? You'll often see Mexican workers in Chinese restaurants, but you never see Chinese workers in Mexican restaurants. 'tis a puzzlement.

Downtown Indy, O'Brien's 9 Irish brother. Fantastic Irish pub. Best fish and chips in the city.
I don't know if this will be upscale enough for the OP to take the parents to, but if they're going to be near Fountain Square / Raymond St. on 70/65...I recommend the Red Lion Grog House. You mentioned the Fish & Chips at Nine Brothers. I've had both, and you need to do yourself a favor and get the Fish n Chips at Red Lion. I don't know where they get the fish, but it's as good or better than Caplinger's, and that's saying something. They have the other traditional Brit favorites like Bubble & Squeak ("just ok" for me...they used tater tots for the fried potatoes and not crazy about that). And I love their meatloaf sandwiches (take your appetite on that one...you won't need anything the rest of the day when you eat that sandwich). But the Fish n Chips is the best I've ever had, talking "London Pub Breakfast" good. I would rate Shallo's in Greenwood #3, Nine Brothers as #2, and the Grog House #1. It's a little bit dive-y but not objectionably so. (Park in the little municipal lot across from Arthur's Music).

I see Sal's getting a lot of mentions, and it's decent, but I wouldn't take the parents out of the way for it. Just imo.

One thing is for certain, it is unanimous that food costs are expensive.

Coopers Hawk and others are nowhere near Ruth’s Chris pricing.
Agree with that. Coopers is pricey, but as recently as weeks ago they were still 10~20 years behind Ruth's Chris in cost for two to eat. If you get an appetizer and a wine flight, that's plenty of calories and I would say the appetizer quality/portions and overall prices are more in line with a Cheesecake Factory. Imo, C/H is pricey but worth it, where Ruth's is more pricey and definitely not worth it, for me anyway.

Respectfully I have to disagree. Granted the last time I ate there was back in 2013/14 I wasn't impressed. Also their scotch eggs were dry as hell.

However I love the idea of a meatloaf sandwich. May have to give them another try.
