    It's over acteon!
    U don't have the high ground. :p

It's time for the vday decorations.
WRONG . . . at least not for Catholics and Orthodox Christians/Eastern Rite Catholics.

Church traditions/teachings say the 8 days of Christmas start on Christmas day, so decorations should not come down before New Years for the Roman Catholics and those Christians who follow the "Roman" calendar (which includes Lutherans, Anglicans, etc). And the official date of Christmas is January 7 for most Orthodox and Eastern Rite religions and they also follow a similar 8 day celebration, so really it is not improper to keep up Christmas decorations until January 15.

But for commercial/heathen purposes, tear down the traditions, follow pagan rules, and put up your valentines hearts :nono:

    Frontier sucks

Credit card machine quit working today. Called the bank and run diagnostics. Nothing on their end. Call Frontier. They do an automated system reboot. Lose all wifi and phones. On hold for 30 minutes. Get disconnected. Call back. Try a reboot again. Nothing. Schedule a tech between 1 and 5pm. Will get a call and text 1/2 hour before they arrive. Nothing. Just get a text that sorry but couldn't make it. Rescheduled for 1/9. How the **** am I suppose to run a buisness with no phones or credit card machine for 2 weeks.

    Ugh. I need a vacation
I feel for you. Frontier is absolutely the worst in all areas. They are a niche provider where other telcoms don't see a margin to operate. We finally got off that garbage at the GPIW last year and can finally function with normal internet tasks and applications.

Do things that plug in and use electricity really fit well under Church traditions, or doesn't that matter?

Whenever you are withdrawing over $1000 from chase bank they make you feel like a fricken criminal. Got all of the Xmas decorations down this morning now time to box them up. Glad we had this warm weather spell -50 would have made this a miserable process.

Not sure why it would matter?

Example: Set up a manger, hang lights from your gutters, put up a lighted tree as your decorations and if you illuminate it then why would you turn the lights off to your decorations just because Jedi says that it is "after" Christmas?

Roughly 1/2 the nation considers themselves to be some sort of Catholic/Orthodox/Protestant Christian and consequently they follow either the Roman church or Eastern Rite church calendars. They would, logically, continue their faith celebration for the 8 day period that starts with Christmas day (either Dec 25 or Jan 7).

For those who do not identify as Lutheran, Catholic, etc then do as you please.

For those who follow dark lord Jedi then spread legos on the floor and walk barefoot across the room???

Isn't the electricity thing just Amish - even though I see alot of Solar Panels out by Shipshewana - it seems to be a Guideline rather than a Commandment

" The use of electricity is strongly avoided in the Amish community, as it is a prime connection to the world that could lead to temptations "

Not talking about the general use of electricity at all!
Just wondering how electric Christmas lights fit in with Church traditions. Traditions that date back long before Edison and Tesla were figuring out stuff. The lights seem pretty related to the commercial aspects of Christmas to me but that could be wrong - thus I am asking.

Well, people used to put candles in their trees, but that was a pretty big fire risk.

Yeah, especially after a couple weeks when the tree is dried out.
I had to look it up and found the trees and candles or lights on the trees do indeed have a religious history dating back far enough to be considered a Church tradition of sorts.

I would still question the traditional validity of the illuminated snowmen in the front yard alongside the grinch and the wookies. :)

My dad had a simple string of lights on the front eve of his home. He put them up once and they stayed there till after he died, probably a few decades!

I was thinking of taking down lights next week.
But I'm worried the temp will drop again.
We're taking our outside ones down on a favorable day next week. While I like the lights out as long as possible, I also enjoy the feeling in my extremities and not wrestling with things frozen to the ground.
