In 2011 I was serious. In 2022 I'm too old and too much paperwork is involved.

Eh, you said you'd do it off the clock so no paperwork involved. And I thought you were joking then, perhaps I misread but I thought you got the point of that thread it wasn't police bashing, it was the opposite. Along with some :stickpoke: at some on here at the time. Both on the oc and anti oc sides.

Everything nowadays requires paperwork. And yes, i'm clear it was all in fun.

Sorry to hear about the paperwork. I was going to offer to let you jack boot some girl scouts tomorrow. Wife is bringing down her troop for circle the city. How much paperwork is involved for let's say just some pepper spray?

I will say that you are one of the LEOs on here that helped change my viewpoints, along with Phylo, JBT1032, and others.

Any use of force is documented with an online program. So more typing than writing. All recipients of said force can be put on the same report. Sometimes the recipients are worth the paperwork.

I appreciate that. I don't have the eloquence those guys do, so I resort to small words and sarcasm to get my point across.

Might want to fix it and exercise it a little once in a while. "Lot rot" can get expensive.
The cab corners and the pass lower fender already has the cancer. The rockers are a little rusty along the the bottom edge of the doors.
It only failed me once in the time I've had it, and it was in our drive. The distributor took a dump.
I could hop in it right now, and it would fire up.

Thus driving up the cost of a new vehicle even further. And. . . . . . with the correct chip in an EV they can shut your vehicle down for as long as they choose.
If you have Onstar they can use it as well. Almost no vehicle made in the last 10 years can not be shut down remotely.

So pepper spraying a bunch of girl scouts is out of the question?

Hey don't cut yourself short, it's not just the giant boots and the bolts sticking out of your neck that win friends and influence people.

If I were into stealing cars I would still rather do it remotely from a few blocks away or more rather than being in the drivers seat of the stolen vehicle or the tow truck.

You can't. The "hacked" car systems don't allow you that level of control. You may be able to start it or turn it off remotely, but you can't steer it. It doesn't turn it into an RC car, in other words. You can probably do a lot more in the infotainment stuff than you can in the operation of the vehicle stuff.

Well...yeah, but so can ICE. The tech is already here and has been for over a decade. That's kind of the flaw in this whole "control" thing. The control is already there. It doesn't require a new form of propulsion, nor does a new form of propulsion alter the equation towards more control. It's easier to make your own electricity than your own gas, after all. Plus, control for what? There is a huge sector of the economy that very much wants you traveling and spending money, staying home and saving your wages causes Japanese style stag-flation, and stag-flation doesn't make rich people richer.

FWIW, you can currently order a Ford without "connected services". I don't know if that means the AT&T modem isn't installed, but I believe it does. I'm fishing for a PCO, if I can get one I intend to order a new F-150 and, barring something very unforseen, that'll get me through another 10-15 years at least. The main reason I'm ditching my current truck, which I bought new 10.5 years ago, is to give to my son.

That 65 F100 with a straight-6, 2-barrel carb, and a 3-speed on the column is looking better all the time. Not only is it hacker-proof, nobody under 50 is capable of stealing it :lmfao:

I was thinking of other things, like brake cylinders. I have had them freeze up while sitting too long. Even the caliper bolts can stick and the cause the pads to drag enough to overheat. Even electrical connections can corrode enough to fail if they are road-wiggled now and then.

That depends on how good the hacker is. 60 Minutes did a segment where the hacker was able to take over all the controls normally done by the control unit. He would connect to the car to get its attention and then send it a long series of tones and while it is trying to figure that out he is able to insert code giving him complete control. He could then disable braking, squirt the windshield washers, etc. I'm guessing his inserted code would go away when the control unit is cycled off and on but he could do a lot of stuff in the meantime. And that was over 5 years ago. More electronics means more control when hacked.

Every time I think about getting a "classic" I think of two things:

    1) This will suck to drive cross country

    2) The headlights are *trash*

I've really really come to appreciate HID or LED Projector headlights, as I've hit that age where night vision involves a certain amount of guesswork. Like, I guess the road turns here. I guess that's probably a driveway. I guess that's just a small depression and not a massive hole.

As an around town toy, I'd like to have an old Highboy or the like. Hell, even an OJ Bronco has a certain appeal. But not for my real vehicle.
