Again all fair, I have read that some (particularly people who's went to the same "school" as me) just have their stuff forgiven without making a request. I dont plan on requesting my stuff to be forgiven. I took on the responsibility, I'll handle it
Honestly, if I hadn't already paid my loans off I would probably take advantage of the program too. After all, I've been working and paying taxes so this is partly my money, I'd just be getting some of it back.

I took advantage of a government housing program one time. Due to property values dropping after the housing bubble break in 2008, there was a program that allowed mortgage refinancing. To qualify one of the owners had to have lost their job. It just so happened my wife was downsized out of a job while on maternity leave. So she took the severance, filed for unemployment after the appropriate period of time and stayed home with our young children. I got a big bonus at work so we paid down the house to get below the mortgage insurance cap and refinanced on Uncle Sugars dime. So I can’t criticize anyone for taking advantage of government programs.

But but but. This student loan forgiveness is just bad. It does nothing to solve the underlying issues and serves only to create more

The difference between this program and most pre existing programs is that they were thought out, designed and intended to help those who need a hand due to circumstances. This program bears no resemblance to that whatsoever.

This is nothing more than an attempt to buy votes from the segment of the population which is supposed to be smart enough to see it for what it is while simultaneously pissing off and further kicking the struggling middle class and providing a nice fat ass payday for the perverted indoctrinators who have carried the burden for the evil ****s currently running the show for decades. They are the true heroes of the left and their puppet masters, they did all the work and we’re seeing it in the form of support for this **** which everyone with a set of eyeballs and a functioning brain can see is wrong.

AndreusMaximus read my intent correctly...while I respect they are your choices to make I would question your priorities if you then expected others to pay your student loans. We would effectively be buying your boat.

Given the bold above...props to you and I retract my squinty eyed Fry. Unfortunately most won't have the same sense of responsibility you have.

    How come?

This is not an attempt to be snarky. It's a genuine question.
Owe 300 billion, 500 billion, 1 T in loans, take your pick.

Disclaimer: I’ve never had a student loan for myself, but paid around 50k in tuition and loans for two kids. Didn’t go to college. Of course I’m thrilled about the idea of paying off other people’s loans. Who wouldn’t be?

Haven’t heard yet that it’s good for the environment, but I’m sure that’s coming.

It was a joke…..I’m 64. You didn’t read that as a joke? I must be losing it in my old age.

I can't even agree with this statement. I'm sure there may be a handful of government programs that are genuinely helpful and make economic sense, but if so, I need some help understanding which ones they are.

I've been asking a lot of folks lately to point out something the government is good at, or a single problem that government has been able to solve. So far, no one has been able to give me an answer.

I never said the programs were well executed but I have no problem feeding hungry kids with tax dollars. Fueling up the weekend Ferrari? Not so much.

If adults want free government money for doing jack **** all the need do I get elected.

Sure, but unfortunately government programs never seem to solve the problem so that the kids eventually reach a point that they don't go hungry. They just perpetuate the situation forever and keep those kids stuck in a cycle of poverty.

Don't you dare start talking about farm programs.
