Just in case nobody has said this one yet, the Ruger mk 4!

I’ve got a mk 3 and my biggest complaint was the difficulty in re assembly, there’s definitely a learning curve! (I can do it with my eyes closed now!

But the mark 4 solves that! No tool takedown! I mean push button!

Add the aftermarket products and it’s a no brainer!

    Volquartsen
    Tac sol
    Tandemkross
    Majestic arms
    And more!

With the push button take down it’s easy to take 1 frame and multiple barrels to tge range, in fact volquartsen sells take off uppers dirt cheap!

I was just gonna mention the 22/45 model has a 1911 style grip angle, but marvin02 already mentioned that. That's a good feature on that model..

Ruger mk4 all the way. Unless you can afford a good used S&W 41. I never knew how accurate I could shoot until I got a 41 from a member on here. That pistol with good target ammo is crazy good. Only issue with mine is it will not cycle CCI Standard velocity at all. Most everything else is fine. If anyone has a explanation why I would love to hear because that's supposed to be the preferred. 22 ammo for a .41. Sorry. I digress

If you want to spend the money, an S&W 41. I don't own one, but I've shot one, and the hype is real.

For the range, my favorite is my Ruger MKII. Don't get sucked in by the cheap centerfire lookalikes....they feel like the cheap copies that they are, and lack the reliability of the Ruger. That gun eats everything I feed it...it's more reliable than any other semiauto .22 I've ever owned. And stupid accurate. Ruger worked some magic with that one. They're also a lot easier to take down/reassemble than the internet would like for you to believe, but the MKIV variant made it even easier, and there's excellent aftermarket support through volquartsen and other companies.

For practical .22 work, I like my S&W 63-5. It's light and handy, carries nicely, and holds 8 rounds for getting rid of varmints around the property. It's another rimfire gun that is built solid and doesn't feel like a cheap toy next to it's centerfore siblings, but being a J-Frame it's still small and light enough for comfortable carry.

As others have said if your goal is purely punching paper a MK IV is difficult to best.. If paper punching as well as training is the goal, a Taurus TX-22 or a Sig P322 (if you can find one).
Just range fun the TX-22 is unbeatable IMHO.
I have a Sig Sauer P-250 .22lr in DAO...it's very accurate, but one needs to develop a DAO trigger finger!
The Taurus TX-22 is a game changer and, for the price, is probably the best one to get!
The Ruger, the Buckmark, etc. are all excellent pistols and you would do good to have any one of them!
Just a hint: the Ruger Mark series pistols can be a 'pain' to clean...

Not a Smith 41 fan. Do like Kart slide on 1911 though ( similar ).

Rugers target stuff hard to beat. No fan of the Mk4, like the MK3 mag release but not the LCI and hate warning label billboards.

Favorite is 6 7/8" tapered bull bbl.
10" looks funky to me, is a IHMSA type of rig.

Buckmarks are cool in Target form.
Have a fair bit in mine....Target 5.5 w a new Contour bbl, striplin 1911 grip adapters and Hogue slabs, Sightmark reflex is OK, proly move to turkey shotgun and update w Holosun.

Had a High Standard Sharpshooter I really liked. Better than Colt Match Target woodsmans.

Woodsmans are nice but smaller, like a trail rig. For target prefer bigger.

Have not shot a Sig Trailside or Hammerli Xesse

Ruger M-V lite weight with all the capital
“V” parts made for them. A CMore red dot and a slick compensator (not required it’s just cool ) and CKW kills steel with it. All that matters to her.
