Near is a relative term. 70 miles is a 3-day walk, but only a little more than hour by car or truck.
This is a long thread. I do not know what nearness to a border crossing has to do with a killing by an American citizen in his hometown.
Because 70 miles is near enough to our intentionally porous border to draw qualified LEOs away from the community so they are not readily available to stop evil.

Talking with a Texas LEO, he was telling me that the teacher did as she was training for active shooter, she turned the lights off and hid with her students. Responding officers asked the SRO if that was an active classroom he was in, he responded that it was not. No active shooting occurred while they were outside. The BP agents who responded were part of their "tactical" team and had access to breaching tools, it required quite a bit of effort to breach the classroom door. Street officers don't carry breaching tools, something to note for future. If an active killer barricades inside a classroom and it has to be breached, how do we get inside quickly? That is a scenario we haven't seen trained for. I might have to invest in a halligan tool.
Not trying to be a smart a$$ here but isn't the best "Breaching tool" a master key held by the Principal the janitor the school secretary? I dont know all the facts here but......

So how much damage do various breaching methods do? Tools, firearms, explosives, battering ram, squad car, SWAT vehicle.

Automatic locking door with master key, remote sensor, video/audio and possibly remote lock/unlock. Hardwired for better security. Key fob or card to get in.

Main entrances should provide double locking doors with mantrap to prevent entry and trap armed assailants.

Basically, make sure the school is a hard target. Literally, like a prison.

I have no idea but thought some here might....

Are the ceilings in a building like this "dropped" ceilings? Do the interior walls go all the way to the interior roof?

Considering I haven't been in a school in well over 20 years, are the doors and locks too reinforced for a handgun to make headway for a breach in a desperate situation?

I'd think the risk of collateral damage would be potentially worth it considering the threat presented.

It is often necessary to deal with the greater, immediate evil. The danger to the children was as much greater, pressing evil. If someone were attacking your wife and children, I do not think that would choose that time to go out and repair your broken gate or fence to keep out trespassers.

I have heard of a couple more active shooters after this. Last one at a Walmart in Ohio. I think this will keep happening till they get their anti gun plan into action. I think there is a lot more going on than we know. Remember during prohibition the Government poisoned alcohol.

I don't understand this line of reasoning. The border control SWAT team was called away from their normal area of operation to come help in Uvalde.

The door knobs at the local elementary school in the town I worked in could be busted off with a sledge hammer and you just put your fingers in the hole and flick out the striker assembly. If that didnt work you would have to attack the hinges.

First responders from various jurisdictions will often assist each other in crisis situations. If there is also an acute situation in their own area, they will probably deal with that instead. Apparently, there was no such situation in their regular area at that time, SWAT teams in any enforcement group are not continuously facing emergency situations. They are often from various sections assigned to routine duties. If a major situation requiring SWAT occurs, they are pulled from routine patrol, or administrative duty, to the that area. They may even be off duty at that time. Having a group that only does SWAT would be a waste of money and resources.

So what were you talking about when you referred to repairing your fence or broken gate?

Snip... during prohibition the Government poisoned alcohol.

I believe they still do. Denatured alcohol, sold everywhere.

But your point is taken, although I still have a hard time believing that madmen shooting kids is part of a vast conspiracy to take our guns.

I also find it hard to believe but I do think something is fishy. I don't know if this is true but was told the 18 year old had a new 70k dollar truck.

    Witness the reaction following

Oh, I definitely agree the left, and some on the right even, will use it to achieve their purpose. That's obvious. I just don't believe the demented kid pulling the trigger has anything to do with the conspiracy. He's just an unwitting pawn, possibly demon-possessed, to be used.
