Wait, what???Starting today you have to dial area code for local calls...just an FYI
"10-digit dialing requirement begins October 24 for northern Indiana area codes" https://www.abc57.com/news/10-digit...ns-october-24-for-northern-indiana-area-codes
Wait, what???
I thought we always had to dial all ten digits, like for every phone call… always. (Discounting before phones became all the rage)
Nope. Certain cities in close proximity didn't need the 219 dialed. Believe it's mainly land lines.Wait, what???

My sisters live in Communist occupied New Jersey.I've dialed everything long distance for close to 20 years now. Even on landlines. It's easier when moving constantly and trying to remember what's local and what's long distance.
That's strange because if I dial a 219 and it's not necessary, I get the "your call can't be completed as dialed" message on the land lines at the shop.I've dialed everything long distance for close to 20 years now. We don't need help dialing our phones.Boomers still tryna figure out dialing phones. My God.
There was actually life before cell phones. We didn't have to dial the area code for local numbers, but we had to dial a 1 in front of it if it was more than one town away. Dialing from Crown Point to Gary, Hammond, Hobart, Lowell, used to be long distance and we had to pay an extra $0.10/min on our landline bill.
Before my employer installed our current phone system, we would have to call in a phone company technician to hard code new area codes into the old system whenever we needed to call a newly created area code.My sisters live in Communist occupied New Jersey.
Their atea code has changed twice in the last 20 years.
I suggested to the FCC 20 years ago that if they just add 1 number to the exchange they would add 10 times the possible numbers. Stupid Idea, I know.
I remember not that long ago when some cell phone customers would fret about receiving a wrong number because it would cost them money.
Ya are oollldddd.
And to toss some fuel to the fire.
Do ya remember when it was $$ per TEXT MSG sent?
