I read somewhere's that they played the national anthem at a set time every day. They weren't actually playing it for her, after all she was 2nd loser.

After finishing third at trials and qualifying for her second Olympics, hammer thrower Gwen Berry turned away from the flag while the anthem played before the start of Saturday's evening session. She found the timing to be no matter of coincidence.

This is exactaly true, she identifies as an activist athlete, and she is very public about that. The attention she is getting for her actions is what she is looking for. Bringing notice to her cause, positive or not.

She's free to be an athlete.
She's free to reach the "top".
She's free to turn her back on the flag.
We are free to support her or condemn her.
Her support people are free to support her or condemn her.
The powers that be are free to keep her or boot her.

Send her back to St Louis if she doesn’t want to represent America and respect the flag. Athletes from a lot of the other participating countries would love to have grown up here and have the opportunities enjoyed by this bitch. I’d love to see her try to trade places with some of them for a while. The same goes for most people constantly pissing and moaning about how bad it is here. I bet that they’d all be singing another tune, if they’re not dead. If you don’t want to respect the country and it’s flag you shouldn’t be allowed to go and represent us.

I think it was not a classy move to do what she did, but she'll be praised for it anyway.

My biggest complaint was her "explanation." She starts out by insinuating she didn't know the anthem was even playing, even calling it a "setup." Then seems to acknowledge she would have done it (turning away) anyway because the anthem "doesn't speak" to her. At least own it if you're going to do it.

Actually is is worse than all that. I quit watching many years ago when I realized that American taxpayers are training other countries athletes to compete in the Olympics. If you watch, and I hope no one does, notice the talking heads noting that in a hypothetical semifinal who the American representative is, then the other countries athlete, that attends x American university and plays the sport there.

It's different at the US Olympic Trails, the Anthem is only played once, not for every medal presentation.

I say cut her from the team for disrespect and elevate 4th place. Otherwise the biotch needs to go to some other country where they'll cut her hands off and kill her family for not producing a gold medal.

These idiot "Activist" Athletes fail to realize how good they have it in our country.
