I`m two things in regards to personal protection firearms; a .45 guy, and a Glock guy. Period. If push comes to shove, and I can`t conceal my Glock 30, or I`m uncomfortable with it printing, I`ve give in and carry my Glock 42 .380.

Glocks are reliable, cycle and feed any ammo, don`t require babying, and they`re inexpensive, (not cheap).

Everyone has their own preferences and many things influence what gun to buy; your personal finances, how a gun feels in the hand and points, etc. But I don`t think there can be any genuine, valid concerns about how Glock`s perform. In my mind, they`re the ultimate combat handgun.

I'm not a glock fan or even striker fired anything fan. I think if you look at the law enforcement end of the question police departments are on a budget but still need utterly reliable pistols. Glock has that niche of price versus reliability.
I'm sure they are getting a sweet deal from glock to arm officer's and a glock is simple to learn. But if a Taurus was 'just as good most cops would be carrying them. That said give me a single action auto please I'll pay more...lol

This isn't a knock on anyone. If a Taurus etc is all you can afford its all you can afford However, I see a variety of guns and skill in classes. People that show up with Taurus G2,3 etc, SCCY and Small Rugers usually have a miserable class. They just either don't work as well as others OR the user just has issues shooting it well for mechanical factors. (when we have those struggle and struggle we let them try a Sig 365 or M&P EZ and usualy no issues and accuracy improves)

One particular issue specific to the Taurus G 2 and 3 series (other than malfunctions) is it has a LONG pull which is a hindrance.

I also wouldn't call the price of a Glock premium. Polymer striker guns are far less expensive than the steel frame autos of years past. Look at the steel frame autos now they are double what a Glock is.

A couple other things to consider on a defensive handgun.
    1. If a Police agency hasn't adopted it at some point in time there is usually a reason.
2 You can go into any gun store and find holsters, mags and usually parts for Glock, M&Ps and Sigs (CZ, HK FN etc can be area specific)
If your not gonna shoot a whole lot or have it in a drawer the less than 300 dollar makes will be better than nothing but for shooting semi serious you'll regret not getting a better proven option.

    Just been ny experience
I'd listen to this guy. He lives in Brazil.

Taurus has a great warranty... and you're going to use it again and again. Think of it this way, they make the guns cheap enough to replace them for free (sometimes 5+ times like the guy on the 1st page). The problem is you can't exactly use the warranty in the middle of a critical incident.

Several much better reputed companies don't have a stated warranty because they didn't want to pay the lawyers for the time. they just cover it anyway.

My HK and CZ just fit my hand so much better than the Taurus I have. I like the internal mechanism more too. much better reputation (I don't have the time/money to put 3k+ rounds through the taurus I have) My Smiths (and even my chiappa) have better triggers than the taurus revolvers I've handled.

Kinda like cars... you want a yugo/trabant/90s kia or ford/chevy/honda/toyota/subaru or bmw/mercedes/lexus, etc?

For my money the TX-22 is  . I have two of them and they have proven to be reliable, accurate and have a great trigger. That being said I don't carry a 22 for self defense and have no interest in any of their center fire offerings because if reliability issues I've seen when working at the range. Any pistol can fail but if I had to bet my life on one right out of the box it would be a Glock.

You get what you pay for! Glock guy here. As an FFL, I have multiple Taurus that needed to be shipped back to "make them work." Never shipped a Glock back. But, whatever you buy, make sure it works, and a Taurus can work right out of the box. Most do.......

I just wanted to ask the question because you can get a very nice, reliable, latest model Taurus G3 for less than half of any of those, or for a third in some cases.
I have shot a Glock and it's a nice weapon. Is it $250 nicer than the Taurus?? You guys tell me.
My opinion is the secrets are out and the big gun makers have their loyal fan following and that’s just the way it is ! I’m a Sig guy but I just bought a canik tp9 elite sc and that’s a heck of a gun so far and I’ll probably pick up a g3 at some point and I wouldn’t hesitate for a minute to carry the Taurus after shooting it to check function ( carry ammo )

Buy one and actually take it out and shoot it for 750 rounds or so. You’ll find out why.

This reminds me of the last panic we had. A lot of folks were out buying the most cost-conscious options just to make sure they had something(which is fine). Then a year and a half later, the second-hand market was flooded with garbage handguns. For the original owner, it did one of two things…

    1. Turned them off of handgun ownership altogether.
    2. Turned them into serious handgun buyers and caused them to be believers of “you get what you pay for” in the handgun market.

First thing you should look at when it comes to purchasing a handgun is track record, THEN price. I’m not saying cost isn’t important, because of course it is…just shouldn’t ever be your first priority. When you’re talking about carrying it, this becomes a much more stern point, the question would be “Would you trust your life to a Taurus?”. I could be wrong, but I’m sure poll results would be overwhelming. Just my 2¢.

Yes. Glock is $250 better than Taurus.

I don't mean to be hyperbolic but if you knew you would be in a gunfight is saving $250 actually the first thing with which you'd be concerned? I'm not saying Glocks never fail, but their reliability has been very well documented.

i have never owned a glock. always thoughtthe fan base was too fanatical. but...i have to admit, if sooo many people are so adamant about reliability, they can't be wrong.

i'm a sig guy myself. i just don't carry my sig everyday. i carry a g2c .40 s&w everyday. i have 1k+ rounds through it without a problem. i consider mine a very dependable gun.

do i trust my life to it? everyday.

Yeah. I wouldnt call myself a fanatic. But the modularity of magazines is one reason I would have a hard time switching.

And I've never had any issues with reliability. Not one.

All that for what I would consider very reasonable price.

    i'm really considering buying a g43 or g23 in .40 or .45.

i've seen some pd trade ins listed for less than $500 lately. if i have the time this weekend i'll see if i can rent one at a range.

i have nothing against reliability. i hear the ergonomics take a little getting used to.
