I work in marketing. When marketers spend a bunch of money on something that can't be tied back to an actual sale, we often call it an awareness campaign. It's basically code for, "we don't have a good way to measure if this was effective or not, but it costs a lot of money and we need a way to justify it."

Ooooh, look how many impressions we got. This was served up to a million people on Facebook. Nevermind that 0.007% of those people actually watched the video, read the article, or insert whatever thing we wanted them to do. But they sure are aware now.
