Watched a guy completely miss a 14X20 target 5 times @ 3 yards with a 2" revolver and proceed to load it up and put it in his pocket before leaving the range. LOL. Scary and funny at the same time.

What possible reason would anyone have for 200 rounds of 5.56 downrange out of an AR 15 with a scope at 10 yards?? Next question, Why would anyone that knows NOTHING about a firearm think themselves capable of training another person. Not holding my breath waiting on answers.

We had a kid come in our range a few months back who fired nothing but 22 shorts out of a small revolver, which, in and of itself isn’t all that odd, but he stayed in his lane for over 2 hours! Fire six shots, reload, fire six shots, reload, on and on and on. He never took a break, never changed targets, never really tried to hit a particular spot on his target, just reloading and dumping 22 shorts for over 2 hours!:dunno:

Either I'm weird or these people are very weird. Same thing with this guy, never changed the target and shot a hole in the target and kept on shooting. I would estimate that at least 50% of the people I see are shooting at the paper, anywhere on the paper. The goal seems to be just hitting the paper. ??

I have seen folks get 1 target and there are 3 shooters. They all throw rounds at the same target the entire session.
1, they are to cheap to buy more targets...???
2, they are ignorant of any improvement goals.
3, they just get off pulling the trigger and things go bang.

Meh, I am lazy. I put a target up, run a drill and then I aim for other parts of the target... corners, writing, etc.

I was finishing up the day with Jason one time... I said I would grab the targets off the board to throw away... he said wait, I will get it... and proceeded to shoot the staples to drop the target. I might have called him a smartass showoff, but I was impressed.

I do this frequently when I am shooting groups or otherwise working on accuracy. Sometimes I fire a round in an open spot on the target then shoot a group centered on that hole. So someone who has no idea what I'm doing, it looks like I'm randomly shooting all over the target. Someone who understands will see groups.

It's apparent if you know what you're looking for. A target with several concentrated groups vs a target that looks like someone hit it with birdshot, like the typical range target... :):

I know this will be hard for some to believe but two different people have asked in the last two shifts if the lines on the floor are marked at feet or yards? I don't understand how anyone could ask this question considering the obvious difference. Draw your own conclusions but this speaks to how clueless some people are.

I always take a spray can of orange or red paint when I set up my target. I instantly have 9 more mini-targets before I have to change out the paper. Over the years I figure I've saved enough to buy a new can of spray paint..........

Overheard "only one shot (out of 5) hit the center, I don't know what happened".

3 out of 4 people shooting at a 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper @ 5 yards to determine discount received on their purchase missed the paper. Still when you suggest training I've yet to have anyone say please tell me more about the training. ?? I know these revelations don't surprise most of you but I'm still disturbed with what I see and hear. So many people with a potentially dangerous tool that have NO basic knowledge of how to use that tool.

And people are surprised when these same people shoot a hole in the house or one of their family.

I’ll throw in a little ray of hope with all this talk of people getting training: almost daily at our range, sometimes numerous times per day, people actually DO come in and ask about our training classes, some register for the next available class on the spot, and others are just gathering information for when they actually have purchased a firearm! An older couple came in just a few days ago and said they had recently moved to a more rural area and had agreed they should get a gun, but did not want to buy one until they have taken a training course! There are definitely idiots who shouldn’t be running around with guns, but there are some sensible folks who think things through, those are the ones who make the range a fun place to work.

Very good points. In all the negatives we tend to live in these days with the evil the MSM pounds us with 24/7 there are many many good people out there. I meet them all the time in my work and daily goings and comings. Or comings and goings. What ever fits.

Discount for hitting paper? What’s the details?

Point Blank ran a special a little while back. You shot one shot at a bull's eye and got a discount based on where you hit. I think it was 10% in the center, 5% for the next ring, and that was it. I got the email but didn't go as there was nothing I needed. It looked like a fairly generous target for 5y IMO.
