Are there any situatuons where a death is reported as due to Covid despite underlying conditions causing the death?
It much akin to HIV. You are HIV+ and at some point it becomes full blown AIDS. When you die from AIDS, it's because it created the conditions that allowed other infections to kill you. You had AIDS and died from pneumonia. The pneumonia could only have killed you because your autoimmune system was so compromised by AIDS. Our Aunt just died from COVID. She had COPD and lung cancer. She had been on O2 for quite a few years. She contracted COVID and straight to the hospital she went. It didn't take long for her body/lungs to be overwhelmed by the viral infection and she died as a result. Did the underlying COPD kill her? Likely. However, the virus set the conditions for her COPD to kill her.

There are a lot of viruses that can do that to people. There is only one that everyone that goes to the hospital or dies is tested for.

Yes...because it causes a whole host of problems and, if you didn't notice...it's going around right now...

A fair question that I can't answer on a personal level. I would say this would likely not be intentional, but I do think it is consistent. COVID patients with underlying conditions who die are, I believe in almost all cases, reported as COVID deaths. More likely than not the underlying condition would not have killed them at that time if not for COVID. I'd consider that an accurate cause of death, but it's fair that it may inflate our numbers considerably over countries who do not report as such.

An elderly man arrived at Atlanta’s Emory University Hospital Midtown last month so stricken with advanced cancer that it could take his life within months — but that’s not what brought him to the emergency room.
The man had contracted COVID-19 and was struggling to breathe, recalls Sara Auld, MD, a critical care physician at the hospital. He was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and intubated. “Given his already fragile state, his condition quickly took a turn for the worse” and he died, she recalls.
Was his death caused by COVID-19?
Yes, Auld says: “While he was very weak and frail from his underlying cancer, his death was undoubtedly accelerated and precipitated by COVID-19.”

How else would you count that death?

    Advanced cancer.

Of course, I would likely count this as a death due to a motorcycle accident.

Is that ACTUALLY true or does it just SEEM that way? RSV is sending people to the hospital and is huge problem right now. How would we know that unless they were testing them for it. People are getting test for lots of things, it just doesn't make the news.

    This is correct.

Covid is the one the central state keeps leveraging.

If you test negative for COVID then we sometimes look for other virus if no sign of bacterial pneumonia. But frankly since there's no specific treatment, there is little utility in finding out what virus it is. But it's a $1000 test.

But he died of COVID with advanced cancer.

If you have covid and shoot yourself in the head, you died of a gunshot wound.

If you are on blood thinners for horrible leg and lung clotting problems and then fall, hit your head and die from a Brain bleed, you died of a traumatic Brain bleed, not clots in your lung.

If you are a horrid diabetic who smoked your whole life and had a bad heart attack, you died of a heart attack, not Diabetes.

I don't understand the controversy. Did his cancer require the intubation? A fragile person who contracts a virus that fills their lungs with fluid so they have to be intubated and that person dies from the stress of that...died of the virus. I've had 3 friends get intubated within the last month from COVID. Healthy people with lungs that filled up with fluid...quickly. Very scary but they survived...because they had no pre-existing conditions.
