Once that program goes into effect, they'll start having A LOT more empty rooms as people decide paying $300+ per night to rub elbows with crazy drug addicts doesn't seem like such a good deal

Can't imagine this will work well. I'm aware of the use of hotels for "non-congregate" sheltering during the last 2 years of Covid where the residents trashed the rooms and stole lots of stuff out of the hotel rooms. Linens, TVs, remotes, coffee-makers etc went missing.

Hotel chains will adapt, keep one building for homeless and shuffle the occupancy numbers so empty rooms are all in that separate building. Fill them up with homeless on the taxpayer's tab at $300 per night and have full occupancy every day for your company at maximum rates. A little on the side to the city council and it's like printing money. I would bet that the details of the law are tailor made for this lucrative scam.
