I have a buddy who is a plumber. He has described some of the jobs he has done, yuck! But when you need one, thankfully there are people who do the job.

When I hired into the mill as an Electronics Tech/Instrumentation Tech.. I walked in to the shop, with dirty clothes.
I was in the coal/coke part of the mill, VERY dirty.
Anyway, senior tech told me, if you wanna wear clothes like that, we'll transfer you to the Motor Inspectors (Electricians).
Go to the Washhouse, and put on a new set of Greens (the outfit we wore... they were green)

I have done this for the better part of a decade. Pre 1982 pennies if you want/need an actual copper washer. Keep a jar of them in my shop. Use a drill press(and stack a few) to get a good center hole.
I can remember bending a few pennies to fit inside battery terminals of salvaged jalopies on their way to the Derby. Desperate half measures called for because all the adjustment was used up.
    One time it took two.
    Quick revival, though.

We didn't have to worry about whether or not it was copper back then.
