Depends on how big a nuke. The tzar bomb leveled wooden structures in a 34 mile radius. 62 miles away the heat was still enough to cause instant 3rd degree burns. It broke windows out as far as 520 miles away. The shock wave in the air traveled around the earth 3 times.

Yes,many smaller more accurate nukes would be more effective militarily, but the impact of a single large nuke could be much more psychologically damaging to your enemy.

The Pentagon’s 2022 report to Congress estimated that by 2030 China’s nuclear stockpile “will have about 1,000 operational nuclear warheads, most of which will be fielded on systems capable of ranging the continental United States” (US Department of Defense 2022a, 97).

Although the tzar airburst weapon was listed as 50-58 megaton, we had a similar large one .... I know, because I worked on it in the early 70's. The Mk53.

Now, a dummy sits at the Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH.
It was a 50 megaton nuke.

“Xi knows that the PRC is on a relative back foot compared to the U.S. — the U.S. economy's doing really well, China’s economy has not been doing very well at all — and he's really looking for a little bit of predictability from the U.S.,” the Pentagon official said. “What he's trying to do is ensure that the Chinese aren't taken advantage of in their relative moment of weakness.”

This if from the Pentagon... Our Pentagon or chinas? It reads like chicom propaganda.
In what universe is any of that correct? Because it sure isn't this one.

Honestly way over blown. They sent 12 IT guys, that all worked on police data bases and websites, to build a new police data base system for Kiribati. It is not exactly a military force.

The effort seems to be, to help the police of Kiribati better monitor who really needs watched across the islands than anything else and track criminal activity across all the islands(connecting them all to one main database).

I call this one a nothing burger. The US could have done it, India could have done it, multiple companies could have. China was asked to do by Kiribati(they already use a cell system placed by China).

But in an age of everything is a 10 alarm fire and the US looking for enemies to distract from internal problems(I do think China is a threat, that would not be if we had maintained our own manufacturing base) it is no surprise they sound all panicked by an IT project.

When the PRC collapses under their own stupidity in the next few years we'll be forced to decouple. There won't be an option. Canada has great resource potential and the ability to ramp up refining. Australia is also an option for another.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

    Regards,

I really do see a pretty good chance of China imploding at some point. They have a real demographic problem, not enough young people, and their economy is slowing down fast. Recession or depression in a one billion plus country could be a real issue.
